This week, the Makin Waves Music Scene Report takes a look at Deaf Rhino, NJ Metal Fest III, Cannabis Corpse guitarist Ray Suhy, MikeroMedia, The Cold Seas, Jack Petruzzelli, Gary “U.S.” Bonds, Black Flamingos, Beat Author and more 

 

The North Jersey hard-rock band Deaf Rhino will celebrate the release of their new song, “Snakeskin,” and their video for it on June 23 at Maxwell’s Tavern in Hoboken, where they’ll open for The Last Internationale and share the bill with Chevonne and The Fuzz. The song was produced by Joel Hamilton (Highly Suspect, The Black Keys) at Studio G Brooklyn and features Sasha Dobson, who’s gigged with Grammy winner Norah Jones. Ohio-based Films Forge helped create a story about “necessary survival” within a Quentin Tarantino-inspired film noir focused on drug trafficking, murder, deceit, beautiful women and rock ‘n’ roll. Other upcoming shows include Aug. 11 at The Saint, Asbury Park, and Nov. 11 at Bowery Electric, New York City, both with Wicked Hollow, as well as Aug. 18 at Asbury Park Music Foundation ...

Jersey guitarist Ray Suhy of Six Feet UnderCannabis Corpse (Season of Mist) and ex-East Of The Wall recently released a violently explosive instrumental metal EP, “Fulmination,” a follow-up to 2015’s acclaimed “Tessellations” record. Out on Cessation Engine, “Fulmination” features a video for the track “Cerulean,” for which he partnered with 19-year-old Jersey drummer Victor Montanaro, who studied with the legendary Joe Nevolo before shipping off to the Berklee College of Music …

MikeroMedia Radio returns June 29 to Old Franklin Schoolhouse in Metuchen to present the influential New Brunswick basement band Ghost Camp. They will perform in front of a live audience, as well as chat with host Mikeromosh Tatick …

Also happening at the Schoolhouse on June 24 is a concert that will conclude Metuchen’s month-long Junebug ArtFest: Lowlight, a roadhouse chic ensemble whose debut LP, “Where Do We Go from Here?,” drew raves, and Coach ’N Commando, a rootsy two-piece in the vein of Hank Williams III featuring former members of Atlantic recording act New Blood Revival. Well, here’s a tasty gig if there ever was one. East Brunswick-raised guitar god Jack Petruzzelli will be heading home to Jersey to play an extremely historic venue, the Victor Talking Machine Co., where legends, such as Jimmie Rodgers, Enrico Caruso, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Arturo Toscanini recorded in the 1920s. Victor is right outside of Camden on the White Horse Pike in Berlin. Best known for his Grammy-nominated work with blues-rocker Joan Osborne, as well as with the Beatles tribute The Fab Faux, Petruzzelli will team with his Fab Faux buddy Jim Boggia, a Philly-based singer, songwriter and guitarist. Tickets are $15 to $50 …

The good-rockin’ surf trio Black Flamingos return from a tour of Italy with a tasty gig on June 29 at The Brighton Bar, Long Branch, opening for Flat Duo Jets, the band that put the two-piece on the map and influenced the likes of The White Stripes. Brian Cohen and Cristofer Arthur of the Hoboken-based Beat Author recording group have announced the release of their second single, “Breathe,” a soft-rock piece featuring the Jersey City singer-songwriter Melanie Munoz. They will celebrate the release 6 to 11 p.m. June 28 at Chris Michael's Steak House in Woodbridge. WKTU DJ Lil Cee will host the 21-and-up event. Tickets are $25 and include a free buffet, sushi bar and valet parking.  “Breathe” will be part of Beat Author’s multi-gene debut compilation, “The Album.”
