Irish-Themed Shows Highlight March Events At Novins Planetarium

(TOMS RIVER, NJ) -- Enjoy a celestial experience at the Robert J. Novins Planetarium (Bldg #13) on the Ocean County College Main Campus, College Drive, Toms River, NJ.  The month includes a variety of laser, kids, and holiday shows!

SPECIAL EVENTS FOR KIDS - Sat, Mar 17 – Pre-K St. Patrick’s Day PJ Party Crafts & Show (11am Party Crafts & 11:30am Show). For our littlest astronomers (Ages 4 & under), this shorter 30-minute show is just right for the Pre-K crowd! With a St. Patrick’s Day twist, learn about the stars and planets, see some laser songs, and have a great time! Don’t forget to wear your PJs! Tickets: $10 all seats, ages 3 and up. Advance purchase is recommended as this show often sells out.

Sat, Mar 17 – St. Patrick’s Day PJ Party Crafts & Show (12:30pm Party Crafts & 1pm Show). For kids (Ages 5 & up), this 45-minute show, with a St. Patrick’s Day twist, will feature the stars and planets, laser songs, and, of course, a great time! Don’t forget to wear your PJs! Tickets: $10 all seats, ages 3 and up. Advance purchase is recommended as this show often sells out.

PREMIERE! Sat, Mar 31 – Harold Shale: The Comet with No Tail (10:30am Craft & 11am Show) Way out in space, far from Earth, there’s a place called the Ort Cloud where baby comets are born. Once they learn what they are, baby comets, also called puppy comets, need to get an orbit and a tail. Take a trip through the solar system with Harold as he makes friends searching for his orbit and help Harold discover the way to get his tail. How? You’ll Find Out! Tickets: $10 all seats, ages 3 and up. Advance purchase is recommended as this show often sells out.

Sat, Mar 31, 2pm – Scout Show! This special Scout Edition of the popular Stars from My Backyard star talk is recommended for ages 12 and under. Group rates are available for groups of 20 or more with advance reservations.

GENERAL ADMISSION SHOW - Sat, Mar 3Mar 10Mar 17Mar 24, 7pm – Wonders of the Celtic Sky Live Star TalkThis in-depth tour of our current sky over New Jersey has an added twist of St. Patrick’s Celtic Sky! Learn what the ancient Celtic People are believed to have seen when they looked at the same constellations that we see, today. This ever-changing program explores the season’s constellations, bright stars, visible planets, deep sky objects, and celestial highlights. Constellation mythology and recent events are also included.

KIDS SHOWS - Sat, Mar 3, 2pm – Kaluoka’hina: The Enchanted Reef (Ages 4 & up). Kaluoka’hina is the enchanted reef whose magic protects it against humans finding it. Colorful inhabitants have always lived in peace ... until a volcano erupts and the spell is broken! Now it’s up to the young sawfish, Jake, and his paranoid pal, Shorty, to restore the magic. Children will witness a one-of-kind underwater world that is jam-packed with adventure, danger, and riddles!

Sat, Mar 3Mar 10Mar 2412:30pm – The Stars from My Backyard (Ages 4-10). Learn about the sun, moon, weather, constellations, and planets visible in the current sky. Fun stories, songs, and a passing rainstorm help make this an exciting introduction for young children.

Sat, Mar 3Mar 10Mar 2411:30am – One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure (Ages 4 & up). Explore the night sky with your favorite friends from Sesame Street! Follow along with Big Bird, Elmo, and their friend from China, Hu Hu Zhu, as they take you on a journey of discovery to learn about the Big Dipper, North Star, Sun, and Moon.

Sat, Mar 10 & Mar 242pm – Secret of the Cardboard Rocket (Ages 5-12). From the boiling surface of the Sun to the icy rings of Saturn, children of all ages will be mesmerized by the incredible scenery as they discover the wonder of discovery! Embark on an outstanding adventure as two children spend a night touring the planets alongside their ship’s navigator, a plucky astronomy book. Learn fun and interesting facts!

LASER SHOWS - Sat, Mar 3, 8:30pm – Laser Vinyl. A fantastic musical concert representing the best of classic rock with some of the most stunning laser art! Enjoy a fantastic audio-visual event that will rock your body, mind, and soul!  Artists include AC/DC, Van Halen, Queen, Kansas, Kiss, Aerosmith, Boston, Journey, Pink Floyd, and Emerson, Lake & Palmer.

Sat, Mar 10, 8:30pm – Laser Beatles. The “Fab Four’s” best spanning six years and 11 albums becomes the background for dazzling laser-art and spectacular effects. All ages will appreciate this fantasy tribute of music and light to The Beatles.

Sat, Mar 17, 8:30pm – Laser U2Laser U2 features the band’s timeless classic and modern hits. This musical concert is set against a backdrop of the latest laser art. Your eyes and ears will be your guides into an immerse journey through this Irish rock band's rise and success!

Sat, Mar 24 at 8:30pm  Laser Zeppelin. Proclaimed by many critics to be the progenitors of heavy metal and hard rock, Led Zeppelin’s individualistic style reset the standards for many musical genres in the ’60s and ’70s. The group has been hailed as one of the most successful, innovative, and influential bands, alongside Pink Floyd, U2, and The Beatles.

Sat, Mar 317pm – Laser Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon. This is a gripping and spellbinding musical journey – beautiful, haunting, powerful, and thought provoking with spectacular and mesmerizing laser art. Dark Side of the Moon offers a mixture of psychedelic, rock, and jazz sounds.

Sat, Mar 318:15pm – Laser Pink Floyd: The Wall. Pink Floyd is always a crowd favorite and The Wall is considered to be one of the best classic rock albums of all time. It is a timeless classic, and one of Pink Floyd’s best, becoming the group’s second top seller behind Dark Side of the Moon
