Inside NJ Stage Magazine: Issue 49

originally published: 07/27/2018

Inside NJ Stage Magazine: Issue 49(BELMAR, NJ) -- New Jersey Stage magazine Issue 49 has been released with Garden State singer-songwriter Bruce Tunkel as its cover story.  The issue contains a mix of features on music, film, theatre, dance, comedy, and art.  It is available for free at www.NJArtsMag.com

Bruce Tunkel has been a part of the New Jersey music scene since the 1980s.  His former band, The Red House, was the first independent band to make the cover of the College Music Journal (CMJ) and went on to release an album with the hit “I Said A Prayer.”  Since that band’s break up, Tunkel has released 7 albums and recently completed the release of 30 singles in the past year.

In addition to Tunkel, Issue 49 has an interview with Asbury Park singer-songwriter Chris Brown; a feature on S0F and her decision to focus solely on original shows; and reviews of recent releases by Eryn, Crazy and the Brains, Ropetree, and The RocknRoll Hi-Fives.  The issue also contains the latest episode of Bongo Boy TV with music videos from around the world, the latest column by Rosemary Conte, and the latest music video by Nicole Atkins.

Film is covered with reviews of Skyscraper (the latest blockbuster starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson), When I Sing (the story of Linda Chorney’s surprise Grammy nomination as an independent artist), and BlacKkKlansman (the latest film by Spike Lee).

The issue takes a deep dive into Springsteen on Broadway, showing how the production deconstructs several myths about Bruce; and takes a look at 15 plays having their World Premieres in the Garden State in the upcoming year.

In addition, the issue has news of Camden being named as one of the 14 finalists for the 2018 Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Public Art Challenge; photography taken by singer-songwriter Anthony D’Amato during his tours around the world; the latest episode of the 2 Guys From Jersey podcast; and a profile of Corey Landolt, a ballet dancer from South Jersey who is in his 9th season with The Washington Ballet.

"New Jersey Stage is a digital magazine that is designed like a traditional publication, but with pages that come alive with audio, video, and links," explained Gary Wien, publisher of New Jersey Stage. "It's kind of like the combination of the internet and a magazine.  It's not a website.  It's not a blog. It's a magazine with the best features of the Internet included.  With NJ Stage Magazine, you don't just read about an artist - you get to see and hear their work!  It's the next generation of arts coverage!"

The issue features writing by Gary Wien, Bob Makin, Eric Hillis, and Rosemary Conte along with photography by Jesse Michalski (including the cover shot).

New Jersey Stage magazine is published monthly and is readable on any PC, tablet, or smartphone.  Issues are available for free at www.NJArtsMag.com. Back issues of the magazine are available at the website as well.
