originally published: 03/18/2017

Garden State Film Festival To Screen "The Samaritan" by Kevin McAfee(ATLANTIC CITY, NJ) -- Drama, politics, mystery, danger, intrigue and love all combine together in The Samaritan, a riveting true story and feature-length film. Directed by Kevin McAfee, The Samaritan documents the reunification of an immigrant family in the midst of the Romanian Revolution and The Cold War. The screening of The Samaritan takes place at the Garden State Film Festival (GSFF) in Resorts Casino Hotel's Ocean Ballroom in Atlantic City on Saturday, April 1st at 2:30pm.

In The Samaritan, goodness and perseverance prevail, despite civil unrest and religious persecution. It's a story of hope, faith, dedication and trust. GSFF Executive Director Margaret Fontana says, "We are honored to screen The Samaritan. It's a true story, and an exceptional story of strength, unity and freedom, which are all intriguing and timely topics for right now. There is also a local connection to New Jersey in the film, with U.S. Congressman Chris Smith being featured in the documentary."

In addition to Congressman Chris Smith, The Samaritan also features former U.S. Congressman Tony Hall, former U.S. Conngressman Frank Wolfe, former Lt. Col. Oliver North and British politician Lord David Alton. Set in Romania during the country's Cold War, a time when human rights violations were at an all-time high, The Samaritan documents how a maverick lawyer helped reunify an immigrant family during the Romanian Revolution.

The Samaritan is just one of the 225 films from around the world being featured at the 15th Annual Garden State Film Festival taking place March 30-April 2 at Resorts Casino Hotel Atlantic City. Individual film screening tickets are $14 in advance and $15 at the door, and weekend passes for the Festival are $45 in advance and $50 at the door. Tickets are available at www.gsff.org and at Festival box offices.
