originally published: 02/02/2018

(ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- The Asbury Park Music & Film Festival (APMFF) will present An Evening with Danny DeVito on Saturday, April 28 at 7:00pm at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, NJ. This event will be one of the anchors of its 2018 lineup that includes headlining performances by Sublime with Rome.

DeVito was born in Neptune, NJ, raised in Asbury Park, and is one of the most popular actors, directors and producers of our time.  The Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner is known for his roles in television series Taxi and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and movies such as One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, Terms of Endearment, Romancing The Stone, Twins, Ruthless People, and Tin Men

A principal of Jersey Film’s 2nd Avenue, successor company of Jersey Films, DeVito produced Erin Brockovich, which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture, Pulp Fiction, Out of Sight, Freedom Writers, Garden State, Along Came Polly, Living Out Loud and others. DeVito served as a producer and co-starred in Get Shorty, Man on the Moon, Be Cool, Even Money and Drowning Mona.

DeVito directed and acted in films that include The War of the Roses, Death to Smoochy, Throw Momma from the Train, Curmudgeons, Duplex, The Ratings Game and The World’s Greatest Lover.  He produced, directed and acted for Matilda, Hoffa and Curmudgeons

The multi-faceted actor was nominated for a Tony Award for his Broadway debut in 2017 in Arthur Miller’s The Price. He won a Drama Desk Award, Outer Critics Circle Award and Broadway.com Audience Choice Award for the role. In 2012 he received rave reviews in the London West End revival of Neil Simon’s comedy The Sunshine Boys.  In 2013, DeVito reprised his role in Los Angeles.

This intimate evening will feature select video vignettes and stories from DeVito’s relationship with Asbury Park and his illustrious career, integrated with discussion, a Q&A session and other special presentations.

“I’m honored to be part of this year’s Asbury Park Music & Film Festival, and look forward to coming home,” said DeVito.  “Asbury Park has been an important part of my life, and this will be a great night at the Paramount Theatre!”

Sublime with Rome features Rome (vocals, guitar), Sublime bassist and co-founder Eric Wilson and drummer Carlos Verdugo.  The California-based trio has released two studio albums thus far, with 2015’s Sirensplacing in the Top 5 on both the U.S. Rock and U.S. Indie charts.

“We can’t wait to come play the Asbury Park Music & Film Festival,” said Wilson.  “So many great bands have played at Convention Hall over the years and we are ready to add our name to the list.  We hope the fans are ready too.”

In addition to Sublime with Rome, the Festival’s musical lineup will include Built to Spill, North Mississippi All-Stars, Low Cut Connie, Tangiers Blues Band, Bobby Bandiera and Friends and Patrick Davis and HisMidnight Choir, with more performers to be announced.  Also being featured at the Festival are the films Long Strange Trip, which will be followed by an intimate panel discussion and Q&A with the film’s producers Eric Eisner and Justin Kreutzmann, and the world premiere of Break On Thru: A Celebration of Ray Manzarek and The Doors.  All schedule and ticket information is available at www.apmff.org.

The Asbury Park Music & Film Festival has welcomed a variety of world-class music, film and panel discussions to its stages and screens. Highlights have included a jam session featuring Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Van Zandt, Southside Johnny and others in support of the documentary Just Before The Dawn about the history of the famed Upstage Club;  Q&A sessions with award-winning actor and director Don Cheadle around the NJ film premiere of Miles Ahead; exclusive Bob Dylan archival footage; performances from Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Robert Trujillo (Metallica), Gene Cornish (The Rascals), Colin Hay (Men At Work), Brian Fallon (Gaslight Anthem) and Robert Randolph; panel discussions with industry leaders Tom Bernard (Sony Pictures Classics), Adam Block (Sony Legacy Recordings) and photographer and director Danny Clinch.
