bergenPAC Presents Paintings by Steve Cavallo(Englewood, NJ) -- Bergen Performing Arts Center located at 30 North Van Brunt Street in Englewood, New Jersey presents I&I: A New Series of Paintings from artist Steve Cavallo. The Exhibition is in residence at The Intermezzo Gallery on the 2nd floor of the bergenPAC from April 2-29, 2015. The gallery is open to the general public during box office hours Mon-Fri 11AM – 4PM Saturday 12PM to 4PM. A ‘Meet The Artist’ reception will take place Tuesday, April 7, 2015 from 6-8PM.

I& I, a new series of paintings from artist Steve Cavallo are large 51 inch by 21 inch watercolor panels created over the last 3 years. Cavallo’s works are often human rights series, but in “I & I”, the paintings are large vertical, personal paintings that were done between exhibits and are not part of any series. These paintings depict people and their relations to mentors and influences in life, art, music and literature. When reviewing his personal archives, Cavallo realized that they are all somewhat related…. They all speak of a common bond between us, how one person influences and leaves his mark on another. The title “I & I” is taken from a Rastafarian phrase.  According to Rastafari scholar E. E. Cashmore, the phrase ’I and I’ is an expression to totalize the concept of oneness; 'I and I' as being the oneness of two persons.

These large watercolors show family members, fellow artists and associates of Cavallo’s in social issues in varying lights.  The paintings are a way of re-connecting with family members, mentors, and fellow social activists, and hearing different versions of stories that have been handed down through the generations, through the lessons learned, and through active pursuit of justice.

Steve Cavallo is a New Jersey based watercolorist who has shown internationally, in Korea, Switzerland and throughout the States.  He is part of the 2015 World Watercolorist Biennial this May in Seoul, South Korea and is scheduled to exhibit at the Fullerton Museum in California.

Over 20 new paintings will be exhibited.
