State Theatre Announces Free Summer Movies Series

(New Brunswick, NJ) -- This summer the State Theatre is proud to present a Free Summer Movies Series, sponsored by Boraie Development. Movies featured in the series include Penguins of Madagascar on July 14, Big Hero 6 on July 21, How to Train Your Dragon 2 on July 28, and Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb on August 4. For each movie there will be a 10am and 7pm showing. Tickets are FREE. Groups of 20 or more must call the Ticket Office at 732-246-SHOW to make a reservation. No reservations are required for groups under 20.

All four movies will be offered free-of-charge to the community, offering families, summer camps, and other young people the opportunity to enjoy entertainment in a beautiful historic theater.

To add to this screening experience, movie goers will enjoy the State Theatre’s state-of-the-art HD digital cinema projection system including a 46’ Stewart film screen, a Barco projector, and digital surround sound.

Penguins of Madagascar

July 14, 2015 at 10am & 7pm

The penguins from Madagascar get their own film in this DreamWorks Animation production. When a villainous octopus named Dave (voice of John Malkovich) hatches a plan to eliminate the penguins, Skipper (voice of Tom McGrath), Kowalski (voice of Chris Miller), Rico (voice of John DiMaggio), and Private (voice of Christopher Knights) must team with a clandestine animal organization known as North Wind to thwart the diabolical plan.

Big Hero 6 is an action-packed comedy adventure that introduces Baymax, a lovable, personal companion robot, who forms a special bond with robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada. When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to Baymax and his diverse group of friends—adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon, and fanboy Fred—who transform into a band of unlikely heroes.

 

How to Train Your Dragon 2

Dragons and Vikings have finally made peace, but when the villainous Drago plots a massive invasion, it's up to Hiccup (voice of Jay Baruchel) and Toothless to save the day in this sequel from DreamWorks Animation. When Hiccup and Toothless discover an ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace.

 

Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb

August 4, 2015 at 10am & 7pm

Get ready for the most wild and adventure-filled Night At the Museumever, as Larry spans the globe, uniting favorite and new characters while embarking on an epic quest to save the magic before it is gone forever.

When the exhibits at New York's Natural History Museum start behaving strangely, Larry Daley (Ben Stiller)—now the director of nighttime operations—must find out the cause. He learns that the Tablet, which magically brings Teddy Roosevelt (Robin Williams), Jedediah (Owen Wilson), and the other exhibits to life at night, has started to decay. Larry, along with his son and museum friends, must travel to London's British Museum to learn how to prevent the Tablet's magic from disappearing.

Field Library at Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) will present a screening of the documentary, The Librarians, on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at 4:30pm. The NJIFF competition will be taking place on the Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays between May 29 - June 7, 2026 and will be a hybrid one as they will be presenting it online as well as doing in-person screenings at Rutgers University.
