Dodge Poetry at NJPAC: Jersey Voices

(NEWARK, NJ) -- Walt Whitman, William Carlos Williams, Allen Ginsberg, Amiri Baraka and many other influential poets have called New Jersey home. Come hear former U.S. Poet Laureate and Long Branch native Robert Pinsky and a sampler of New Jersey poets when NJPAC presents Dodge Poetry at NJPAC: Jersey Voices, an evening with recognized poets from throughout New Jersey performing curated poetry readings Friday, April 24, 2015 at 8PM in The Chase Room.

Some of the poets who make the Garden State the Poetry State whose work will be covered include Renée Ashley, Cat Doty, Maria Mazziotti Gillan, Kathleen Graber, Peter Murphy, James Richardson, Vincent Toro, BJ Ward, Joe Weil and Gretna Wilkinson. Other themes to be explored in the three-part series are Shuffle, Cramproll, Paradiddle and Stomp: The Rhythm of Tap Meets the Rhythm of Poetry on March 6 and Poetry Like Bread: Poems of Political and Social Consciousness on May 15.

(WASHINGTON, DC) -- After months of competitions in classrooms and communities nationwide, the 2026 Poetry Out Loud National Finals will take place April 28–29 in Washington, DC. Reciting poetry from an anthology that celebrates historic American voices in recognition of America's 250th anniversary, state and jurisdictional champions will compete for the national champion title and a $20,000 cash prize. Joy Ogunsakin, a senior from Trinity Hall in Tinton Falls, will be representing New Jersey.
