Rock On! This Week's Sound Bites...4/17/25

by Danny Coleman - published 2025-04-17

"Good to talk to you man, a pleasure as always," began the very talented Dave Keyes as he enthusiastically discussed his upcoming area shows on April 17 at The Twisted Tail in Philadelphia and April 19 at The Lizzie Rose Music Room in Tuckerton, NJ. "We are looking forward to it, it's always a fun place to play and we always have a good time down there in Tuckerton. I'll have Chris Bergson on guitar, a wonderful singer named Ellis Hooks, John Conte is playing bass and Diego Voglino on drums. So, we have five of us and Chris, myself and Ellis split the vocal duties, we all have our own material that we'll be doing; some original stuff, Ellis sings some Sam Cooke stuff, he's kind of an older soul R&B kinda' guy so we mix it up and he's been doing some gigs with chris for quite a while. Chris's stuff is a little jazzier, mine is a little more Boogie Woogie oriented so we have a good time up there."

Rock On! This Week's Sound Bites...4/10/25

by Danny Coleman - published 2025-04-10

"I'm well Danny and I hope you are as well," began pianist/keyboardist Russell Ferrante, an original founding member of Yellowjackets, who will be at the Bell Theater in Holmdel, NJ on Thursday April 24; their last U.s. show before heading to Europe. "So, the band started in the late '70s; we began as musicians playing with the guitarist Robin Ford and essentially, we formed a band within a band and that became Yellowjackets. Our first recording came out in 1981 and we've been at it since then; touring around the world. Our latest recording, which is called, "Fasten Up" is our twenty-seventh recording and I just took a look at "Jazz Week Magazine" and this is the third week where our recording has been in the number one spot. So, that's very exciting for the band and kind of amazing that after 45 plus years, we are still able to do this. We're really grateful to make music, tour and record and make music; we feel very fortunate."

Rock On! This Week's Sound Bites...4/3/25

by Danny Coleman - published 2025-04-03

"So, Danny; how are you anyway? I'm doing the Beatle Fest in New Jersey before we do Sellersville; it's just me," laughed the always pleasant, always jovial and always upfront original Yardbird Jim McCarty. "What's happening now is, we're doing a different sort of show. Somebody had suggested to me a few years ago; why don't you do The Yardbirds history? So, we're doing a different show where I talk through the history of the group and we play the songs as they come up and we have a back projection illustrating what I'm talking about. We've never done this before, Sellersville will be the first one (Laughs)."
