The Theater League of Clifton To Hold Auditions For "Meshuggah Nuns” December 7-9

originally published: 11/17/2021

(CLIFTON, NJ) -- The Theater League of Clifton will hold auditions for its dinner/theater production of “Meshuggah Nuns” on December 7-9  from 7:00pm to 9:30pm each night at Mario’s Restaurant, 710 Van Houten Ave., Clifton. Call backs are slated for December 10 from  7:00pm to 9:30pm.

Director Bill Kaufman said all performers should come prepared to sing an up-tempo song for the audition. The production, a musical comedy, will feature four female parts, one male part, and one “open” part. The parts—all adult roles—will involve singing and dancing. The show will have live music from a keyboard player.

The 2022 performance dates (10 shows over four weekends) are February 26 and 27, and March 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 19 and 20. Friday and Saturday performances start at 7:30pm. and Sunday matinees begin at 4:00pm. All shows will be held at Mario’s Restaurant.

The show involves the Little Sisters of Hoboken joining forces with a Tevye character (the lead male part in “Fiddler on the Roof”) to perform songs on board an ecumenical cruise ship, creating ecumenical “nunsense.” (Meshuggah means “crazy” in Yiddish.)

Kaufman has a long list of credits, directing shows for the Theater League of Clifton, Nutley Little Theater, the Montclair Operetta Club and the Bergen County Players. He’s also been a theater teacher at several northern New Jersey schools.
