RVCC, Montreal Holocaust Museum to Co-host Virtual International Kristallnacht Commemoration

(BRANCHBURG, NJ) --The Raritan Valley Community College Institute of Holocaust of Genocide Studies and the Montreal Holocaust Museum will co-host a virtual International Kristallnacht Commemoration, November 10 from 10:00am-11:30am. Kristallnacht, the “Night of Broken Glass,” is the name given to the violent attacks against the businesses, places of worship, and homes of Jews throughout Germany and in the annexed countries, including Austria and Sudetenland, on November 9-10, 1938. The violence was implemented by the Nazi leaders.

The Kristallnacht Commemoration, which is free of charge and open to the public, will include a virtual tour of the Montreal Holocaust Museum Exhibit, And in 1948, I Came to Canada: The Holocaust in Six Dates, on display at RVCC’s Branchburg campus until January 14.

In addition, Elie Dawang, one of the survivors highlighted in the exhibit, while share his experiences during the Holocaust and participate in a question-and-answer session with participants following the presentation. Dawang was born to Lithuanian-Jewish parents in 1934 in Paris, France. His father, Faiwish, had a radio manufacturing business and his mother, Shaina, was a housewife. Elie was six years old when the Nazis occupied France. His harrowing story of survival is highlighted in the exhibition.

This virtual program is being co-hosted by Eszter Andor, Commemoration and Oral History Coordinator from the Montreal Holocaust Museum, and Michelle Edgar, Program Specialist for RVCC’s Institute of Holocaust and Genocide Studies. To register for the online program, visit https://bit.ly/2XBfkLk.
