(ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- The 5th Annual Asbury Park PorchFest event, which took place on October 2nd and attracted thousands of attendees, had a record-breaking finish. Asbury Park Homeowners’ Association (APHA), which hosts the event, announced that the recipients of proceeds raised from donations and merchandise sold at the 2021 event are: Asbury Park African-American Music Project (AP-AMP), Asbury Park Arts Council, Asbury Park Music Foundation, and Interfaith Neighbors.
PorchFest is a family-friendly, free event that began in Asbury Park in 2017. This year over 110 musicians were featured on almost two dozen porches across the City. Homeowners donated the use of their porches and lawns for a huge audience that walked, biked, and drove around town to capture their favorite performers and to hear some new voices and musicians as well. Genres ranged from acoustic and electric folk, pop, and rock ‘n roll to Reggae, Broadway, and Hip Hop.
“Once again, Asbury Park embraced and supported the efforts of our all-volunteer team, and we felt the love! Thanks to the community’s enthusiasm and beautiful weather, we held our largest event yet,” said Jordan Modell, the APHA Chairman and Co-President and the event’s founder. “Since the pandemic began, we’ve been determined to keep live music available in Asbury Park. This year, even with our legendary venues reopening, we were able to promote our vibrant local music scene while raising funds for AP charities. Thanks to our sponsors and the generosity of those who attended for their donations and t-shirt purchases, we’ve raised more than $10,000, so we’re able to help more AP-based organizations that serve the community in different ways.”
In addition to donations received during PorchFest, this year’s event was sponsored in part through the generosity of iStar, Asbury Park Arts Council, Asbury Park Property Owners Coalition, Asbury Sunset, Black Tank Design, Lisa Cadmus, John Carroll, City By The Sea Veterinary, Deana Kreher, The Project Matters, Troppoli Law Firm, and You Can Be Found.
“The AP PorchFest team is committed to building on the success of the first five years,” said Modell. “If anyone is interested in being an event sponsor next year, they can reach out to me directly at JordanModell@gmail.com for more information.”
