Following their debut in-person appearance at this year’s New York City Poetry Festival on Governors Island, Thursday Morning Poets, who represent NYC’s broad cultural and ethnic diversity, will raise their voices online for social change as part of the 10th annual global demonstration led by 100 Thousand Poets for Change. On Friday, September 24 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm, they will join poets, musicians, and artists worldwide, from many languages, cultures, geographical regions, ethnicities, creeds, beliefs, and religious affiliation, in the call for lasting social, political, & environmental change.
Thursday Morning Poets will draw on their unique lived experiences in reading of their original works of poetry in-concert with thousands of other poets from around the world to support peace, justice, and sustainability.

Strangers until 2021, The Thursday Morning Poets (TMP) first met at a Queens Public Library virtual workshop with Queens Poet Laureate Maria Lisella in January of this year. Enthusiastic about the prompt-based workshop she led, 16 people elected to continue on their own, forming TMP. The weekly meetings are facilitated by a different member each time. TMP is a safe writing space in which members are inspired first by prompts, ideas, and poems and finally each other to produce first drafts of original poetry. TMP members also share calls for submissions and Open Mic opportunities.
