Old Library Theatre presents "My Big Gay Italian Wedding"

originally published: 09/09/2021

(FAIR LAWN, NJ) -- Old Library Theatre (OLT), Fair Lawn Recreation Department’s resident theatre company is excited to present the Off Broadway hit, My Big Gay Italian Wedding, at the Fair Fawn Community Center. Written by Anthony J. Wilkinson, the play satirizes the controversies surrounding same-sex marriage as well as gay and lesbian stereotypes. Performances take place on Friday, September 17 and Saturday, September 18 at 8:00pm, and Sunday, September 19 at 2:00pm.

Anthony Pinnunziato, a gay Italian-American from a large chaotic family, wishes to marry his boyfriend Andrew Polinski in a traditional Italian ceremony. Anthony's overbearing mother won't give her blessing unless Andrew's estranged mother also gives her blessing and the ceremony is performed by a priest. Matters are further complicated by Andrew's ex-boyfriend, intent on breaking up the couple.

“Keeping this cast and crew safe during COVID-19 has been our highest priority. Everyone involved is vaccinated, and we have rehearsed while masked and/or outdoors to increase safety. We are so happy to be returning to the stage for the first time in 18 months with this wonderful comedy.” said Producer Dawn Cardona

My Big Gay Italian Wedding is directed by Linda Wielkotz, stage managed by Prema Marin, with costumes by Kathy DeLucca.

“Old Library Theatre has always been a group that takes chances in presenting classics, big musicals, children’s shows, and edgy material. It is exciting to be involved in a group that takes chances. My Big Gay Italian Wedding is a contemporary comedy that not only deals with same sex marriage, but it is a light-hearted show about families – any family – and acceptance.” said Director Linda Wielkotz.
