Here's a look at the top 10 most read articles published at New Jersey Stage during the week of August 22-28, 2021.  Each week, we publish about 70 articles, including several original columns and features, along with news releases for events happening throughout the state and nearby areas like Philadelphia and New York City. This week's Top 10 includes articles involving 7 different counties in New Jersey (Bergen, Essex, Gloucester, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, Somerset) plus one for New York City. The most read story this week was also the most read story the week before and the subject - comedian Hasan Minhaj - appears twice week's list.

1) NBPAC Presents Hasan Minhaj In August - (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- The New Brunswick Performing Arts Center (NBPAC) presents comedian Hasan Minhaj from August 19-22 as he showcases and prepares material for his new one man show in an intimate setting. 

2) Trilogy Repertory Presents “Annie” at Pleasant Valley Park - (BASKING RIDGE, NJ) -- As the second production in Bernards Township’s “Plays in the Park” summer series, Trilogy Repertory Company will produce the popular musical “Annie.”  The show  will run on  August 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, and 28, at the outdoor amphitheater at Pleasant Valley Park, Valley Road, in Basking Ridge, at 8:00pm each evening.  The shows are free to the public, but donations to support this program sponsored by the Bernards Township Department of Recreation are gratefully accepted.   

3) “Broadway Meets the Beach” LIVE! on the Seaside Heights Boardwalk - An enthusiastic crowd of Broadway fans is waiting on the boardwalk in Seaside Heights, NJ this balmy Friday, August 13, 2021 evening for a live performance of Broadway Meets the Beach. Tonight’s show, which features such Broadway stars as Constantine Maroulis (Rock of AgesJekyll and Hyde), Jim Borstelmann (The ProducersYoung Frankenstein), Korie Lee Blossey (Disney’s AladdinTarzan), and Jen Perry (Kinky BootsMama Mia), also spotlights local New Jersey talent including two groups of young dancers from Kick Performing Arts Studios in Fair Haven, NJ. 

4) Sounds of the City closes out Thursday with Third World - (NEWARK, NJ) -- Horizon Foundation Sounds of The City presents Third World on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 6:00pm. The grand finale of the 2021 Sounds of the City season is an appearance by one of the longest-lived reggae bands of all time, Third World. Combining reggae with elements of R&B, funk, pop, rock, dancehall and rap, Third World’s style has been described as "reggae-fusion.” Admission is free to this outdoor concert in Chambers Plaza.

5) Middlesex County Hosts Labor Day Weekend Concert With Queen & Journey Tribute Bands - (EDISON, NJ) -- Middlesex County hosts its 15th annual Labor Day Weekend Concert in Roosevelt Park at the Stephen J. Capestro Theater (location of Plays-in-the-Park) on Sunday, September 5 at 4:00pm.  Performances will include a Freddie Mercury tribute band, Xtreme Queen, and a tribute band to the music of Journey, Separate Ways the Band. Gates open at 3:00pm.

6) Comedian Hasan Minhaj To Perform At Two River Theater August 26-29 - (RED BANK, NJ) -- Award-winning comedian Hasan Minhaj showcases and prepares new material for his new one man show in an intimate setting. The global success of his Netflix comedy special “Homecoming King” garnered rave reviews and won a 2018 Peabody Award. “Experiment Time” will run for six shows only from August 26-29, 2021. This marks the theater’s first return to indoor performances in the Rechnitz Theater since March of 2020.

7) Wine Down Summer at Riverwinds Takes Place This Weekend - (WEST DEPTFORD, NJ) -- Wine Down Summer at Riverwinds takes place Saturday, August 28 and Sunday, August 29 from noon to 5:00pm at Riverwinds Community Center Great Lawn in West Deptford. In addition to the wine tastings, there will be live music by The Funktion Band on the first day and Goldenseal on the second plus artisans & crafters, and food from several eateries.

8) "Cherish is the Word" Spotlight on The Association’s Jim Yester - Vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Jim Yester is best known for his work with The Association, the sunshine pop vocal group which produced such great ’60s hits as “Cherish,” “Windy,” “Never My Love,” and “Along Comes Mary.” The first band in history to open a rock festival at 1967’s Monterey Pop Festival, Yester and The Association went on to sell over 80 million recordings, earning six gold records and three platinum disks along the way.

9) Eagles To Play Shows At Madison Square Garden In August - (NEW YORK, NY) -- Eagles – Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit, with Deacon Frey and Vince Gill - will perform two nights at Madison Square Garden.  The "Hotel California" 2021 tour comes to MSG on August 22 and August 24. Commemorating their 1976 album, the concerts will feature a “Hotel California” set accompanied by an orchestra and choir, followed by an additional set of the band’s greatest hits.

10) bergenPAC presents Peppa Pig's Adventure on December 19th - (ENGLEWOOD, NJ) -- Round Room Presents Peppa Pig’s Adventure, a live musical show, on Sunday, December 19, 2021 at Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC).  Performances take place at 1:00pm and 4:00pm. Little piggies everywhere will love this 60-minute live musical experience.
