In Full Color Presents “Bloom: Virtual Summit”

originally published: 03/12/2021

(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- IN FULL COLOR (NJ), presents Bloom Virtual Summit, two days of workshops, networking and performances -- all to support women artists of color through COVID-19. The Bloom Virtual Summit is the fourth annual fundraiser for In Full Color, our award-winning theatrical event featuring women of color and other BIPOC folx of marginalized genders sharing their stories, in their own voices. We give Black, Latinx, Asian, Arab, Middle Eastern, Indigenous and other marginalized women access to Authentic Representation. Be a part of the storytelling revolution today!

The Bloom Virtual Summit is on Friday and Saturday, March 19 – 20, 2021 at 6:00pm (Eastern Time) on ZOOM; the Zoom link will be provided to all audiences who have reserved tickets. Tickets for Bloom Virtual Summit are $35 and can be purchased online.

Jersey City poet laureate, IFC alumna and Bloom Virtual Summit technical director RescuePoetix explains, “In Full Color provides an environment conducive to growth, connection and confidence for persons who identify as women and others of marginalized genders, opening doors for creativity and interaction in a platform designed to foster relationships and opportunities to develop and achieve career goals within the Arts.”

Workshop topics include entrepreneurship -- with special focus on succeeding as a businesswoman of color, making money with your art and perfecting a work-life balance -- as well as several creative pursuits. Attendees can take a guided stab at playwriting, decolonize their acting technique or even take a poetry and performance masterclass with Grammy- and Tony- nominated writer reg e. gaines, best known for his Broadway hit show “Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk.”

The poet gave us a preview of his teachings.“Participants will acquire technical devices which lift levels of performance. Brilliant writing directs performance, so this workshop is as much about writing as the interpretation of text. Key is understanding devices which trigger cues such as subordination of verbal measures to tonal considerations. This simply means stretching vowel sounds to make the spoken language more elastic, plastic, flexible, bendable and moldable. Or ‘killing’ consonants, stressing sounds at the end of sentences or phrases which force the speaker to pause. Stop. Breathe.”

“We’ve come a long way in being able to support marginalized artists since we started producing in 2015, and now artists need our help more than ever. Last year with the support of our donors and patrons we were able to create over $7,000 in paid opportunities for artists -- this year, we’re hoping to create $10,000 in paid opportunities and the Bloom Virtual Summit is going to be a huge part of that” says Summer Dawn, founder/director of In Full Color.

She adds, “And this isn’t just a fundraiser -- the Bloom Virtual Summit is an amazing way for our community to share vital knowledge and create community together. It’s about creating a network of artists, entrepreneurs and creatives that will lean on and nourish each other.”

TICKETS - All ticketholders will receive access to all programs on both days of the summit. To attend, please donate to this campaign. Our goal is $3,000, which will help us provide paid work for women artists of color this May! $35 tickets can be purchased online.

In Full Color is an award-winning organization that empowers women of color through education and the arts. We are leading a storytelling revolution that empowers woman-identified creators from marginalized ethnic groups to achieve the highest levels of Authentic Representation in theater, visual art, comedy, music, dance and other media. We also aim to entertain and educate audiences of all colors and genders about the need for diversity in the media, racial issues and cultural exchange.

EVENT PREVIEWS

Kirby

Kirby & Delia: "All Rise"

The murals in the Brennan Courthouse (583 Newark Avenue) aren't tough to decipher. There are pilgrims, there are patriots, and there is Hudson County history rendered in the boldest strokes. Look to the underside of the building's grand dome and you'll find signs of the Zodiac; look to the walls for "The Coming of the English," a piece by Howard Pyle that depicts exactly what its title suggests that it will. This feels appropriate for the town's most handsome building — one with an interior reminiscent of classic civic architecture in Trenton and D.C. and the decorated Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, and named after a jurist whose written decisions on the Supreme Court were distinguished by their clarity. William Brennan believed in the salutary effects of direct and comprehensible language. For him, the law was no place for abstraction.
