(ATLANTA, GA) -- Professional Photographers of America (PPA) held the Grand Imaging Awards ceremony in January at Imaging USA 2021, the largest annual conference and trade show for professional photographers. The overall Grand Imaging Award went to Shannon Squires-Toews, M.Photog, for her image “Perfectly Perched” in the Animal Portrait category. Her photograph was selected from over 5,000 entries by a jury of 36 professional photographers.

The Grand Imaging Awards encourage photographers to improve their craft and creative process by entering and receiving feedback through competition. This year, Squire-Toew’s image was deemed by jurors to be the very best of the images to be included in PPA’s prestigious Loan Collection. This selection of photographs is published yearly in a hardcover book by Marathon Press.

Squires-Toews was selected as the winner from a pool of 12 category winners. The category winners, who each received a crystal award, were:

Kirby

Kirby & Delia: "All Rise"

The murals in the Brennan Courthouse (583 Newark Avenue) aren't tough to decipher. There are pilgrims, there are patriots, and there is Hudson County history rendered in the boldest strokes. Look to the underside of the building's grand dome and you'll find signs of the Zodiac; look to the walls for "The Coming of the English," a piece by Howard Pyle that depicts exactly what its title suggests that it will. This feels appropriate for the town's most handsome building — one with an interior reminiscent of classic civic architecture in Trenton and D.C. and the decorated Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, and named after a jurist whose written decisions on the Supreme Court were distinguished by their clarity. William Brennan believed in the salutary effects of direct and comprehensible language. For him, the law was no place for abstraction.
