(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- Art House Gallery presents “Attachment”, a solo exhibition of new paintings, drawings and installations by Lisa Ficarelli-Halpern from November 7 – 29, 2020. The show includes over a dozen recent oil paintings and drawings on canvas, as well as three dimensional installations complementing the two-dimensional artworks.
The artist’s reception is scheduled for Saturday, November 7th, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Art House Gallery in the Cast Iron Lofts. Eight guests at a time and masks required; contact information will be collected for contract tracing.
Recalling the content and technical virtuosity of old masterworks, Ficarelli-Halpern’s paintings and drawings provide a visual feast as well as an expressive message of symbolic and referential significance. Playing on the theme of “attachment,” the show features ribbon as visual connective material between the objects and figures. Her recent artwork, “The Garden, after Bosch,” features ribbon as a compositional armature, referencing the artist’s ongoing interest in describing humanity’s ever-growing connection through technological means.
Ficarelli-Halpern describes the exhibition: “‘Attachment’ as a show title seems to capture a multitude of emotions and concepts I am considering during this time. It represents my need to continue creating work that offers a visual respite from the current events and environment our world is experiencing. Pre-Covid-19, I envisioned the bow and ribbon as purely a decorative, common motif across the entire body of work. Now it has also a metaphor for the importance of technology in my life, how attached I have become to it, and my gratitude for its existence.”
An award-winning artist whose primary medium is oil painting, Ficarelli-Halpern is the recipient of a Geraldine Dodge Foundation Fellowship and an Eileen S. Kaminsky Family Foundation Residency at Mana Contemporary Fine Art (ESKFF) in Jersey City.
She has participated in numerous juried solo and group exhibitions throughout the tristate area and beyond, with the Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art in Wisconsin, the Zhou B. Art Center in Chicago, the Washington Art Association in Connecticut, The Bowery Gallery in New York City, and the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey in Summit.
Lisa Ficarelli-Halpern holds a Master of Fine Arts from New Jersey City University, Bachelor of Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design, and served as Senior Design Director for Polo Ralph Lauren Home Collection. She is currently an adjunct professor of studio art at New Jersey City University.
“Lisa’s work is timeless, with a combination of vintage and contemporary imagery. The viewer will be delighted as they step into a past century but recognize elements of the present. Perfectly executed with the utmost attention to detail, Lisa’s work never disappoints.” Gallery Director: Andrea McKenna
