Fund for Irish Studies at Princeton University presents "The Creation of The Hunger"

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- Princeton University Professor of Music and composer Donnacha Dennehy and Global Scholar and singer Iarla Ó Lionáird discuss the creation of the music-theater work, The Hunger, about the Great Famine in Ireland, on Friday, September 13 at 4:30pm. The discussion will take place  in the Lewis Center for the Arts’ James Stewart Film Theater at 185 Nassau Street on the Princeton campus. The event opens a full season of the 2019-20 Fund for Irish Studies series at Princeton University and is free and open to the public.  


Luna Stage Presents World Premiere of "Mrs. Stern Wanders the Prussian State Library"

(WEST ORANGE, NJ) -- Luna Stage will launch the 2019 MainStage Season with the World Premiere of Jenny Lyn Bader’s Mrs. Stern Wanders the Prussian State Library, directed by Ari Laura Kreith. Set in Nazi Germany, this suspenseful drama explores the relationship between Hannah Arendt and the young prison guard who arrests and interrogates her. The production runs from October 19 to November 10.

(JERSEY CITY, NJ) — The New Jersey City University Center for the Arts presented the 7th Annual NJCU Alumni Jazz Big Band Concert on September 6 on the J. Owen Grundy Pier, Exchange Place, in Jersey City. Conducted by Professor Emeritus Richard Lowenthal, this oncert featured trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and vocalists Allan Harris and Antoinette Montague. Photographer John Posada was on hand to take some photos.

SOPAC Presents "1964" The Tribute

(SOUTH ORANGE, NJ) -- Tickets are now on sale for “1964” The Tribute on Friday, September 20 at 8:00pm. This tribute to the early Beatles captures the electricity and excitement that generated the worldwide popularity of the young pop band. With an eye to authenticity and detail, “1964” The Tribute is acclaimed as one of the greatest Beatles tributes by no less than Rolling Stone. Ticket prices range from $35-$48.


MPAC To Celebrate 25th Anniversary With Free Concert Featuring BSTREETBAND

(MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- Mayo Performing Arts Center is celebrating its 25th anniversary by thanking its patrons and supporters with a free concert by BSTREETBAND on Friday, September 27 at 7:30pm. They are the top Bruce Springsteen tribute band today. The group, originally called Backstreets, formed in the 1980s and performs nationwide. The evening will also feature a free outdoor preconcert performance by local singer songwriter and former Morristown Onstage winner James Gedeon from 6:15 pm - 7:15 pm, as well as other surprises. Tickets are available beginning Tuesday, September 10.  There is a two ticket limit.

(NEWTON, NJ) -- His pace is frenetic. He holds no hostages. He says what you are thinking but are afraid to say out loud. The bottom line is this: Wear adult diapers if you are going to see Vic DiBitetto perform live.  He will return to The Newton Theatre for shows on Friday, March 6th, 2020 at 8:00pm and Saturday, March 7th, 2020 at 8:00pm.

"Two Trentons: An American City Speaks" To Be Screened At NJ Film Festival

(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- The documentary film Two Trentons: An American City Speaks tells the story of a city through the words of its citizens, who speak passionately about the progress of a community renewing itself even as a tragedy strikes at the heart of its rebirth. “Two Trentons” is an official selection of the 2019 New Jersey Film Festival, and will have its premiere at the Festival on Sunday, September 15 at 7:00pm.


"Zahra and the Oil Man" To Be Screened In Newark Followed By Q&A Session

(NEWARK, NJ) -- Critically acclaimed short film, Zahra and the Oil Man (ZAOM), will have a public screening at Cityplex-12 in Newark on September 12 at 8:30pm. The screening will include a Q&A session with the film’s cast and crew, moderated by Sharon Stroye, director of public engagement at Rutgers School of Public Affairs and Administration and co-leader of the Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation Campus Center (TRHT) at Rutgers University–Newark.

Passaic County Hosts 2019 Art In The Park Festival September 14-15

(HAWTHORNE, NJ) --  The County of Passaic’s Board of Chosen Freeholders will host the third annual Art in the Park festival on Saturday, September 14 from 11:00am to 7:00pm and September 15 from 11:00am to 4:00pm at Goffle Park in Hawthorne. Scheduled highlights of the two-day gathering include a catalog of art presentations available for viewing and purchasing, arts and crafts activities for all ages, artisanal food and craft vendors, performances, poetry recitations, and a full lineup of live music and entertainment. Admission is free.


Hamilton Township Revives Arts Commission

(HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ) - Hamilton Township's newly reformed "Arts Commission" will be hosting a public meet and greet/art display on October 9, 2019 at the Hamilton Township Library located at 1 Justice Samuel A Alito Way from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The meet and greet is open to all  who have an interest, questions, curiosities or enjoy visual arts displays; light refreshments will be provided by Eet Gud Bakery.


Governor Phil Murphy Announces New Jersey the First State to Provide Universal Access to Arts Education

Widely recognized as a national leader in arts education, New Jersey has become the first state in the nation to provide universal access to arts education for all public school students according to the 2019 New Jersey Arts Education Annual Summary Report released today by Arts Ed NJ, a non-profit education organization. The review is based on data from the New Jersey State Department of Education for the 2017/2018 school year.


Northern NJ Community Foundation's ArtsBergen Announces Call for Artists for 'Live Mural Painting'

(HACKENSACK, NJ) -- The Northern New Jersey Community Foundation's (NNJCF) ArtsBergen initiative announces a call for visual artists for 'Live Mural Painting' at the Main Music Art Brew & Fare in Hackensack, New Jersey.  The event takes place on Saturday, October 5, 2019.

JCTC Presents Jersey City Slam's Grand Open Mic

(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- Poetry takes center stage at Merseles Studios when Jersey City Theater Center (JCTC) presents Jersey City Slam’s Grand Open Mic. A decade-old Hudson County literary tradition, the Grand Open Mic is Jersey City Slam’s signature “open mic” show, where new and established poets, spoken-word artists, and other writer/performers gain new audiences by reading their work to the public.  Grand Open Mic takes place September 19 at the black box theater in Merseles Studios in Jersey City. Doors open at 6:00pm, Show: is at 7:00pm.
