NJ Rep Presents The World Premiere of "Voyager One"

(LONG BRANCH, NJ) -- New Jersey Repertory Company presents the world premiere of Voyager One by Jared Michael Delaney from June 20- July 21, 2019. The play takes place in the far future where a discovery is made which upends everything humanity has been led to believe. Meanwhile, in the recent past, two researchers on the Voyager One Golden Record project find themselves on a journey across the universe where rock n’ roll never dies and love lives on.

The production is directed by Evan Bergman and stars Mare Akana, Joseph Carlson, and Daven Ralston.

Jared Michael Delaney is a playwright & actor based in Philadelphia. He has had three short plays produced as part of the Philadelphia FringeArts Festival. His full-length play, The Hand of Gaul was produced in 2013 (Inis Nua Theatre) and his play Noli Timere (Don't Be Afraid) premiered 2017 (Theatre Conspiracy). His comedy Paint It Black, You Devil was accepted into The Greenhouse workshop with Strange Sun Theatre. A third piece, Child of Lions, was accepted to the HRC Showcase Theatre’s Reading Series and was named “Honorable Mention” in the New Works of Merit Playwriting Competition. His comedy, The Cannibal of Ajax, will be part of Best Medicine Rep’s Reading Series in May 2018. His play, Voyager One was named a Semi-Finalist for the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center’s 2018 National Playwrights’ Conference. He has written for newspapers & magazines. M.F.A. Voyager One runs June 20 - July 21, 2019. Previews are Thursday and Friday, June 20 and 21 at 8:00pm, and Saturday, June 22 at 3:00pm. A special talk-back with the playwright and director will be held after the first preview, Thursday, June 20. Opening night with reception is Saturday, June 22 at 8:00 PM. Regular performances are Thursdays and Fridays at 8:00pm; Saturdays at 3:00pm and 8:00pm; Sundays at 2:00pm. Tickets are $50 (opening night with reception, $60; premium seating + $5). NJ Rep’s Main Stage Series of six new plays is supported by The Geraldine R. Daven Ralston (Woman/Sarah) is a DC-based actor, musician, and composer. Select DC area theater credits include: Once at Olney Theatre Center; How I Learned to Drive at Round House Theatre; The Winter’s Tale and As You Like It at Folger Theatre; Three Sisters and No Sisters at Studio Theatre; Everything is Illuminated at Theatre J; Top Girls and The Bockety World of Henry and Bucket at Keegan Theatre; Wonderland: Alice’s Rock and Roll Adventure at Imagination Stage; The Magi at Hub Theatre; A Bid to Save the World at Rorschach Theatre; Wild Sky at Solas Nua (company member); A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Friendship Betrayed, and The Madwoman of Chaillot at WSC Avant Bard; Space Bop, and Snow Day at Arts on the Horizon; and A Midsummer Night’s Dream at PG County Shakespeare Festival. When Daven is not acting onstage, she is working as a musician, songwriter, and teaching artist in the DMV area.

Joe holds an MFA in Acting Directing Pedagogy from Virginia Commonwealth University and is the 2018 Recipient of the 10 under 10 Alumni Award.  Joe is an Artistic Associate of The Conciliation Project, a social justice theater company dedicated to using challenging dramatic work to open honest dialogue about racism and oppression in America in order to repair their damaging legacies.

Mare Akana (The Voice) is a founding member of NJ Repertory Company and has Narrator for countless stage readings there and in NY. At NJRC she performed in Octet [flute player] and Find Me a Voice [Christine and others]. Off-Broadway credits include Welcome to the MoonFind Me a VoiceDown the Road and Macbeth. She has done dubbing for TV and voice acting for Audible. She was choreographer for Grove Street Theater’s production of Queen of Hearts. An award winning multi-media artist, she serves as Gallery Director for West End Arts and on the board of NJ Rep.
