Kicking and Swearing One-Act Festival Returns to UCPAC for its Fifth Year

(RAHWAY, NJ) -- The Fifth Annual Kicking & Swearing One-Act Festival will take place from February 15-17 at the Union County Performing Arts Center’s Hamilton Stage. It's a weekend filled with original one-act plays by the most talented budding writers and directors in the theater world. The festival offers two evenings of insightful writings that include original comedy, tragedy, satire, and sci-fi short plays to make up a matinee of spectacularly exciting theater.

Kingston Ho Named Winner of New Jersey Youth Symphony's 2019 Concerto Competition

(NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ) -- Violinist and New Providence resident, Kingston Ho, 17, has been named the winner of the New Jersey Youth Symphony’s (NJYS) 2019 Concerto Competition. Ho will perform Sibelius' Violin Concerto in d minor, Op. 47 with the NJYS Youth Symphony under the direction of Helen Cha-Pyo on April 7 at the State Theater in New Brunswick. Fortissimo Flutes, Clarinet Ensemble, and Concertino Winds will open the concert followed by Youth Symphony performing Hindemith Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber, Sibelius Violin Concerto in d minor, Op. 47, and Dana Wilson Hold Fast to Dreams, based on a poem by Langston Hughes.

Westminster Conservatory Annual Showcase Highlights Local Talent on February 17

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- Westminster Conservatory will present its annual showcase featuring Westminster Community ensembles and students on Sunday, February 17 at 3:00pm in Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall on the campus of Princeton University. The performers will be the Westminster Community Orchestra conducted by Ruth Ochs; Westminster Conservatory Children’s Choirs conducted by Patricia Thel and Yvonne Macdonald; Westminster Choir College students enrolled in Westminster’s Opera Workshop, and winners of the Westminster Conservatory Piano Concerto Competition: Michaela Guo and Annie Wei.

Arthouse Film Festival begins March 4

On March 4th, Arthouse Film Festival will return for ten weeks to its home base New Jersey theatres: AMC Mountainside and AMC Monmouth Mall. The festival is open to anyone, but seating is limited, so early enrollment is advised.  Subscription is $139 for five weeks or $245 for all ten weeks.  After February 27th, rates will go up.  Also being offered is a specially priced flex ticket so users may choose any eight out of ten nights for their convenience.

Roxey Ballet hosts an interactive evening around Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana"

(LAMBERTVILLE, NJ) -- Roxey Ballet, New Jersey's professional contemporary dance company, is proud to present, “Carmina Burana”, on March 9th and 10th at Roxey’s own Canal Studio Theater. This performance will be an interactive journey through the artistic sensibilities of founder and choreographer Mark Roxey, and award-winning composer Ryan James Brandau. This performance is the pre-cursor to Roxey Ballet joining Princeton Pro-Musica and the Princeton Girlchoir on Sunday May 21st at the beautiful Richardson Auditorium, in Princeton NJ as guest artists.

An Interview with Dan Kurtz of The New Deal

Formed in 1999, Toronto, Canada based trio The New Deal, is a pioneer in jam-based electronic music. The group was founded by remaining members Dan Kurtz (bass) and Jamie Shields (keys), along with Darren Shearer (drums) who left tND in 2011. Since its inception, tND has remained committed to its improvisational roots and has served as a model for other jamtronica bands bridging the gap between multiple music genres as well as the border between Canada and the United States.

(SUMMIT, NJ) -- Vivid Stage, in residence at Oakes Center at 120 Morris Avenue in Summit, is offering a new creative class especially for adults over the last weekend in July. Creativity Deep Dive, taught by professor and playwright Phoebe Farber, is an opportunity for grown-ups to have the fun of exploring their own imaginations and creative potential. The class is offered from 10:00am-2:00pm on July 26 and 27; lunch will be provided.
