(GLASSBORO, NJ) -- The Grammy Award-winning chamber choir The Crossing, led by conductor Donald Nally, will kick off this season’s Marie Rader Presenting Series at Rowan University on February 8 at 7:00pm in Pfleeger Concert Hall. The Philadelphia-based group focuses on new music in its effort to make and record work that expands the choral repertoire. Many of their more than 70 commissions explore social, environmental, and political issues.
The Crossing has released 14 recordings, earning the 2018 Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance, and a just-announced Grammy nomination for 2019. Among its other honors are the American Composers Forum’s 2017 Champion of New Music, the 2015 Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence, three ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming, and the Dale Warland Singers Commission Award from Chorus America.
The choir has worked with acclaimed artists and organizations including the International Contemporary Ensemble, American Composers Orchestra, Network for New Music, Lyric Fest, PRISM Saxophone Quartet, Beth Morrison Projects, Pig Iron Theatre Company, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Mostly Mozart Festival, National Gallery of Art, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Cleveland Museum, and Carnegie Hall.
The presenting series, supported through a fund established in 2008 by friends of the late arts advocate Marie Rader, offers performing arts programming to engage and enrich the cultural life of the Rowan community and beyond. Donations and proceeds from events help bring world-renowned artists to campus, while nurturing educational opportunities as well as faculty and student performances.
Tickets are $25, general admission; and $5 for Rowan students with valid ID. Pfleeger Concert Hall is located in Wilson Hall on the university's Glassboro campus, Route 322 in Glassboro. Purchase tickets online at rowan.tix.com.
