Arab and Jewish High School Students Capture Cultural Unity Through Photography Exhibition

originally published: 07/28/2018

(TEANECK, NJ) -- The Puffin Cultural presents Through Others' Eyes, a photography exhibition featuring works by Arab and Jewish Israeli teenagers. The exhibition is the final event of a larger program organized by Givat Haviva, a non-profit organization dedicated to integrating society in Israel.  The exhibition will be on view until August 5.  The Arab and Jewish youth photographers will be present to share their experiences at the Puffin Cultural Forum event on August 5 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.  Admission is free, but reservations are recommended.

Arab and Jewish children rarely come into contact as they are separated by their communities and education systems. Givat Haviva brings together the two groups of students between the ages of 16 and 18 to meet over the course of 25 sessions to engage in dialogue and to study photography.

To reserve tickets for the event on Sunday, August 5 email tix@puffinfoundation.org.   The Puffin Cultural Forum is on 20 Puffin Way (off Teaneck Rd.) in Teaneck. Call 201-836-3499 or visit www.PuffinCulturalForum.org.

GIVAT HAVIVA, founded in 1949, is a nonprofit organization formed with the goal of creating a shared society in Israel. It is built upon the ideas of equality and cooperation. A recipient of the UNESCO prize for peace education, Givat Haviva creates programs that unite the Arab and Jewish communities of Israel. In addition to the Through Others’ Eyes project, Givat Haviva also hosts Children Teaching Children, a program in which Arab and Jewish children are paired with one another and engage in a year long program involving joint classes and experimental learning at the other’s schools. For over 50 years Givat Haviva has been using these programs to foster a coexistence between Arabs and Jews located in Israel.

The Puffin Cultural Forum is a project of the Puffin Foundation, Ltd. which, through the arts, encourages dialog about issues important to the community.  The Puffin Foundation, Ltd. underwrites this and all other Puffin Cultural Forum events and programs in order to make it possible for everyone to attend.
