Ocean Grove's "Summer Stars Classical Series" presents Flutist Anthony Trionfo and Pianist Albert Cano Smit

originally published: 07/05/2018

(OCEAN GROVE, NJ) -- While Ocean Grove's Great Auditorium is renowned for its majestic pipe organ, this beautiful, majestic hall is designed to highlight great music of all kinds. And that’s exactly what it will do on Thursday, July 19 when flutist Anthony Trionfo and pianist Albert Cano Smit take center stage at 7:30 pm to make their Ocean Grove debut. Although both musicians excel as solo artists and in tandem with orchestras and ensembles worldwide, the two are good friends and enjoy performing together.  Individual tickets $17.00, $10 for students; or $75 (plus applicable fees) for all five concerts in the Series.

ANTHONY TRIONFO, flutist -- Praised for his “spellbinding” performances with “authoritative intellect” by the Santa Barbara Voice after his performance of the Jolivet Concerto with the Music Academy of the West Festival Orchestra, flutist Anthony Trionfo made his recital debuts this spring on the Young Concert Artists Series at the Kennedy Center, as well as in New York City’s Merkin Concert Hall, premiering a new work by YCA Composer-in-Residence Katherine Balch. During the 2017-2018 season, Mr. Trionfo appeared in recitals and conduct educational and community outreach at Chamber on the Mountain, Iowa State University, Southern Adventist University, Saint Vincent College, the Levine School of Music, the Lied Center of Kansas, and the Port Washington Library. He performs Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 with Vadim Gluzman and the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, and appears with Jupiter Chamber Players. He has previously performed concertos with the Interlochen Symphony Orchestra, the Colburn Symphony Orchestra, the “President's Own” Marine Band (2012), and the Las Vegas Philharmonic.

Trionfo was the recipient of the 2012 Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award and appeared on From the Top as a Featured Alumni Performer. In 2013, he was a First Prize winner of the Alexander & Buono International Flute Competition and a winner of the National YoungArts Foundation Competition.  At the 2016 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, Mr. Trionfo received additional prizes, including the prestigious Michaels Award, the Saint Vincent College Concert Series Prize, the Ruth Laredo Award, and the Lied Center of Kansas Prize. He received the further distinction of being the first YCA artist to win the inaugural LP Classics Debut Recording Prize, granting him a commercial recording.

Trionfo is currently pursuing his master’s degree under the tutelage of James Walker at the Colburn Conservatory of Music, where he has been a Teaching Fellow. He graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy, having studied with Nancy Stagnitta, and has performed in masterclasses with Emmanuel Pahud, Mimi Stillman and Paula Robison. In addition to performing, Mr. Trionfo is committed to community outreach, teaching through the Jumpstart program in Los Angeles.

ALBERT CANO SMIT, pianist - Dutch-Spanish pianist Albert Cano Smit has performed as a soloist and chamber musician across Europe and the U.S. His recital appearances have taken him to the Bozar’s Henry Le Boeuf Hall in Brussels, the Maison Symphonique in Montreal, the Palau de la Música in Barcelona, Royce Hall in Los Angeles, the Teatros del Canal in Madrid and the Palacio de Festivales in Santander. As a soloist he has performed with the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal, the Manchester Camerata, and the American Youth Symphony.  Mr. Cano Smit gave a four-hand performance of the Schubert Fantasy with YCA alumnus pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet at Zipper Hall in Los Angeles and at the Wallis Annenberg Center Hall in Beverly Hills.

The pianist currently studies with Ory Shihor at the Colburn School Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles.
