Newark Arts announces launch of new name for its Annual October Arts Festival

originally published: 06/21/2018

(NEWARK, NJ) -- Newark Arts has announced the launch of a new name and brand for its annual art festival. The former Open Doors Citywide Arts Festival is now the Newark Arts Festival and will take place October 4-7, 2018 in Newark, New Jersey, reflecting the city’s position as a City of the Arts and national arts capital. In keeping with the festival’s beginnings as an artist studio tour, the Open Doors Open Studio Tour will remain a festival highlight, along with a number of exciting spotlight events. Newark Arts welcomes artists of all disciplines to apply to its Call for Participation, open now at the festival website. The deadline to apply is August 3, 2018 by 5:00pm.

“Newark Arts Festival will be a dynamic four days during which all forms of creativity are on display in every corner of our city and Newark’s rich landscape of museums, galleries and pop-up venues are open and buzzing with activity. An astounding number of great artists live and work in Newark, so this festival is a citywide celebration of Newark’s thriving cultural scene while also showcasing artistry from all over the globe,” stated Jeremy Johnson, Newark Arts Executive Director.

The Newark Arts Festival is Newark Arts' premiere event and is an annual art fair offering an array of exhibits, artist talks, performances, curated tours, open artist studios, screenings and workshops. More than 8,000 participants, 200 artists and 100 open studios will combine to showcase the best of visual, performing, and literary art. Participating galleries, programs and curators will be announced later this summer.

All are encouraged to apply to the Newark Arts Festival Call for Participation by visiting newarkartsfestival.com.

Newark Arts Festival is supported in part by a grant from NJ Department of State, Division of Travel and Tourism.
