Award-winning Atlantic Brass Band kicks off 29th Annual Cape May Music Festival

(CAPE MAY, NJ) -- The 29th Annual Cape May Music Festival will kick off Sunday, May 27 at 7:00pm during Memorial Day Weekend with a free concert featuring the award-winning Atlantic Brass Band outdoors at the Rotary Park Bandstand, Lafayette Street at Decatur Street (400-498 Lafayette St.) Rain site is Cape May Convention Hall, 714 Beach Ave.,  Cape May, N.J. 

The 35-piece Atlantic Brass Band, based at Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J., is an authentic British-style brass band and has won national and international competitions and entertained countless audiences throughout the Delaware Valley since 1984. The band just won both the 2017 U.S. Open, and the North American Brass Band Association competitions, making them three-time national champions. A longtime Cape May favorite, the band is comprised of professional musicians, professors, educators and community members. The Atlantic Brass Band will present a rousing concert of American music, perfect for a Memorial Day weekend celebration.

Co-sponsored by the City of Cape May and presented by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC) with funding by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. The annual Cape May Music Festival will also feature world-class orchestral and chamber music, jazz, a capella vocal, and American folk music. An Interview with Dan Kurtz of The New Deal

Formed in 1999, Toronto, Canada based trio The New Deal, is a pioneer in jam-based electronic music. The group was founded by remaining members Dan Kurtz (bass) and Jamie Shields (keys), along with Darren Shearer (drums) who left tND in 2011. Since its inception, tND has remained committed to its improvisational roots and has served as a model for other jamtronica bands bridging the gap between multiple music genres as well as the border between Canada and the United States.
