New Jersey Stage Magazine Continues To Break New Ground For Arts Coverage

originally published: 03/22/2016

(BELMAR, NJ) — Are digital magazines the future of publishing? New Jersey Stage believes they are.  The third issue of New Jersey Stage in 2016 continues to break new ground in arts coverage by merging the worlds of print, web, and blog publishing.

“We utilize multimedia to tell the story behind the story,” explained Gary Wien, publisher.  “Two perfect examples include our features on Brian Fallon and Heathers, the Musical in the latest issue.”

Fallon is best known for being the lead singer of The Gaslight Anthem, a band which announced they were going on hiatus last year.  In March, Fallon released Painkillers, his first solo album.

“Brian talked with us about his new record, the future of the band, the comparisons to Bruce Springsteen, and growing up in New Jersey,” said Wien.  “What we were able to do with the piece was showcase music videos from his new record as well as music videos from The Gaslight Anthem and from Brian’s side projects - The Horrible Crowes and Molly and the Zombies.  The end effect lets the reader see the evolution of these songs and the artist.”

Heathers, the Musical is currently being presented by The Eagle Theatre in Hammonton, NJ.  The Off-Broadway hit is based on the 80s cult classic film which starred Winona Ryder and Christian Slater.  In addition to a feature article containing interviews with the star (Cailene Kilcoyne) and the play’s director (Ed Corsi), the piece dives deeper into the production and its origins from the film.

“We were able to show a video clip that provides a behind-the-scenes look at an early rehearsal of the musical, a video collection of many of the best lines in the film, and present two tracks from the original cast member recording to give readers a better sense of the music in the play,” added Wien.

In addition to these two features, the current issue also contains a look at Ears On A Beatle (with a conversation from the playwright, Mark St. Germain); a preview of the Asbury Park Music In Film Festival and the Women In Media 7th Annual International Film Festival; reviews of the films Green Room and Midnight Special; a feature on Linda Chorney’s new documentary, The Opening Act; an interview with the band Strangled Darlings; a look at DJ Jeff Raspe turning 50 and his upcoming birthday concert with Jesse Malin, Mark Erelli, and Val Emmich; and regular columns reviewing new records and talking about the arts.

New Jersey Stage magazine is published monthly.  Issues are available for free at www.NJartsMag.com and can be read on any PC, tablet, or smartphone without the need to zoom in. Unlike many “digital magazines,” New Jersey Stage is designed exclusively for the digital format. The publications goes beyond the capabilities of print publishing.
