Angélique Kidjo

Saturday, April 11, 2026 @ 7:30pm

McCarter Theatre Center (Matthews Theatre)
91 University Place, Princeton, NJ 08540

Run time: 75 minutes with no intermission

Five-time GRAMMY® Award winner Angélique Kidjo is one of the most powerful voices in global music today. With sixteen albums to her name, the Benin-born, genre-defying artist blends West African rhythms with American R&B, funk, jazz, and Latin influences to create music that is as joyous as it is visionary.

Celebrated for her electrifying live performances, Kidjo has been hailed by Time Magazine as “Africa’s premier diva” and named one of its “100 Most Influential People in the World.” Her accolades include the Polar Music Prize (2023), the Crystal Award from the World Economic Forum, the Amnesty International Ambassador of Conscience Award, and the prestigious Vilcek Prize in Music.

Kidjo’s wide-ranging collaborations span Bono, Alicia Keys, Philip Glass, Branford Marsalis, Yo-Yo Ma, and the Kronos Quartet. She’s reimagined classic works like Talking Heads’ Remain in Light and paid tribute to icons like Celia Cruz, while championing new voices through her GRAMMY-winning album Mother Nature, featuring young African artists across Afrobeat, hip-hop, and R&B.

A passionate humanitarian, Kidjo is a UNICEF and Oxfam Goodwill Ambassador and the founder of the Batonga Foundation, which supports education and empowerment for girls and young women in Africa. She has also served as a spokesperson for AFAWA, a pan-African initiative to finance women entrepreneurs.

More than a musical icon, Angélique Kidjo is a force for change—an artist whose work bridges continents, uplifts communities, and inspires generations.
