(VOORHEES, NJ) -- Have what it takes to get applause (or laughs) from a crowd? Want to prove that your singing skills extend beyond the shower? Then sign up for Voorhees Theatre Company’s Cinco de Mayo Open Mic Night on May 5 from 7:00pm-9:30pm, at Coffee Works in Voorhees.
Ages from 6th grade to 25 are invited to put on their best performance in front of the crowd, whether their forte is singing, stand-up comedy or dramatic reading. There’s no contest, no judging, just an evening of great fun, amateur talent and maybe a discovery or two. Performers are required to register in advance, as time is limited, and they can do so at http://voorheestheatre.org/events/. Cost is $5 for both performers and attendees. Coffee Works is in the Ritz Complex, 910 Berlin Road in Voorhees, NJ.
There’s also still time to sign up for VTC’s Hip Hop for the Musical Stage program, designed to help performers ages 12-18 execute electrifying dance moves to Broadway and Off-Broadway music, so they will be better positioned to nail that next audition. Part of VTC’s Continuing Education Program, the two-week, six-class course will run from 7-8:30 p.m. April 24 through May 11, 2017. Instructor is Kelsey Makofsky, a competitive hip-hop dancer, Voorhees Theatre Camp instructor, and choreographer of VTC’s recent fall productions of Mary Poppins and Beauty and the Beast.
Registration or Hip-Hop for Musical Theatre is $169 for all six classes. Classes take place at the Voorhees Middle School theater, 1000 Holly Oak Drive in Voorhees. To learn more or to register, visit www.voorheestheatre.org.
