(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- State Theatre presents the Nutcracker featuring American Repertory Ballet on Friday, December 16 through Sunday, December 18. Sunday, December 18 at the State Theatre is Middlesex County Freeholders Day. In the 2016-2017 season, grant funding has been provided for State Theatre New Jersey’s education and outreach programs by the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders through a grant award from the Middlesex County Cultural and Arts Trust Fund.
Middlesex County Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios said: “My fellow Freeholders and I are very proud to support this beloved holiday program and many other arts and cultural programs through the Middlesex County Cultural and Arts Trust Fund. We are dedicated to bringing the arts to people of all ages and to every part of the County, and the Trust Fund helps us accomplish that. The State Theatre’s annual presentation of Nutcracker is a wonderful introduction to the performing arts for young people, and a perfect way for us to make the arts more accessible to our residents.”
About the Show

The lush Victorian-era production of Nutcracker features Tchaikovsky’s magnificent score performed with a live orchestra, a cast of over 100 performers with costumes and sets. The orchestra is under the direction of Maestro Michael Pratt, and features the Princeton Girlchoir. Tickets range from $35-$75.
American Repertory Ballet’s critically acclaimed dancers will be joined by students from Princeton Ballet School to tell the classic tale of a girl’s magical holiday journey.
ARB, formerly known as Princeton Ballet, has been performing its Nutcracker at State Theatre for over 20 years. American Repertory Ballet’s current version of Nutcracker is choreographed by Artistic Director Douglas Martin, with additional choreography by Resident Choreographer Mary Barton, featuring scenes from Company Founder Audrée Estey’s original production.
Nutcracker is a special opportunity for select students from Princeton Ballet School to join the professional company on stage. Many students are from Middlesex and Mercer counties. Students from New Brunswick are DANCE POWER Scholars — students selected from American Repertory Ballet’s DANCE POWER program in New Brunswick Public Schools to attend Princeton Ballet School on full scholarship.
