(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- NimbusPRESENTS the local holiday favorite: Jersey City Nutcracker in December. Set to Tchaikovsky’s renowned orchestral score, Jersey City Nutcracker tells the story of two children’s city adventure, following them through fantasy, adversity, and celebration, with lessons about friendship and community along the way. Performances, which run from December 13-15 and December 20-22, are preceded by a Winter Carnival with games, concessions, and craft vendors.
Jersey City Nutcracker features Nimbus Dance’s professional company dancers with talented local youth from The School of Nimbus as well as from the French American Academy of Jersey City, Frank R. Conwell PS #3, Rafael de J. Cordero PS #37, Waterfront Montessori, Bergen-Lafayette Montessori School, and Snyder High School. Lead youth performers include Sibel Gitonga (Explore 200 MS) and Michael Fuks (Newark’s Arts High), Janelle Acosta, Brogan Donston and Leah Murphy (High Tech HS), Ysabelle Baculod (McNair HS), and Sophie Shapiro (Scotch Plains-Fanwood HS). Additionally, local celebrities make hilarious guest cameo appearances.
Performances will take place Friday, December 13 at 7:00pm; Saturday, December 14 at 1:00pm & 5:00pm; Sunday, December 15 at 1:00pm & 5:00pm; Friday, December 20 at 7:00pm; Saturday, December 21 at 1:00pm & 5:00pm; and Sunday, December 22 at 1:00pm. Tickets range from $25-$40 and are available for purchase online. Nimbus Theater is located at 165 Newark Avenue in Jersey City, New Jersey.

In this pre-performance discussion, made possible by the New Jersey State Council on the Humanities, Jersey City educator-activist and author Lewis Spears, director of teen mentor/leadership program: Kismet of Kings, and Nimbus Artistic Director, Samuel Pott, along with Jersey City teen representatives, discuss the experience of coming of age in Jersey City. What is the state of youth culture in Jersey City? How are teens in Jersey City activating to bolster and develop their voices as artists, as leaders and as citizens of the 21st century? Join us for this invigorating, free, pre-performance discussion.
