(NEWARK, NJ) -- On Sunday, August 16th at 4:00pm, the Newark Poetry Council presents its first ever Town Hall at the Heart Ballroom in Newark, NJ. Attendees will get to learn more about the council and its members, as well as how to get involved with them. They will also begin discussions on how the organization can serve the city of Newark and its poets.
Topics will be based off results from the online survey, which includes topics such as Diversity in the poetry community (ie. Page poetry vs. Spoken Word); The sustainability of poetry slams in Newark; Cliques / hierarchy/ gatekeepers in the community; The poet as a public servant: where and how; Support for current projects in community that already exist (open mics et al); Resources and accessibility for publishing work; Resources for health, COVID related and beyond; Compensation for poets, monetary or otherwise; and Professionalism in the poetry community
Admission is free. Light refreshments will be served. Masks and social distancing are mandatory.
