(ENGLEWOOD, NJ) -- The Ladies of Laughter comes to the Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC) on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at 8:00pm. The show returns with some of the funniest women to come out of the national Ladies of Laughter competition, which was first established in the Bergen County YWCA’s gymnasium in 1998.
The Ladies of Laughter show has visited theatres, casinos and even Madison Square Garden through its competition and Funny & Fabulous Tour, catapulting the careers of dozens of female comedians. The evening will include a mix of locally grown but nationally known headliners.
Marion Grodin - This Teaneck resident started out as a staff writer for the sitcoms It’s a Living and Princesses and sold six screenplays. Just as she was about to embark on her seventh screenplay, it dawned on her that her comedian father, Charles Grodin, had not lovingly nicknamed her “Mouth” for nothing. She decided it was time to start saying all these funny things she was writing for other people to say. She is a favorite at New York City’s top clubs, including Standup NY and Gotham Comedy Club.
Maureen Langan - Originally from Lake Hiawatha, Maureen’s exceptional wit and honest rants on life’s absurdities make her a comedy standout at clubs, theaters and festivals across the U.S, Canada, and Europe. She was named one of the “Ten Standout Stand-ups Worth Watching” by Backstage Magazine. Whether Maureen is lambasting celebrities, satirizing news, or joking about her father, a garbage man, and her mother, a blessed Irish immigrant, she will make you laugh.
Dana Eagle - This Los Angeles resident grew up in New Brunswick and never lost her East Coast wit. She is the original “Newcomer” winner of the first Ladies of Laughter competition at Caesars Atlantic Casino, which catapulted her career as a national headliner and brought her to HBO’s US Comedy Arts Festival. Her new book, How to be Depressed: a Guide, offers a mix of tongue-in-cheek advice, wry wisdom and “therapeutic” activities like a bad poetry generator. She has appeared on Last Comic Standing and on late night television.
Robin Fox - This Bridgewater resident’s first time on stage was in the Ladies of Laughter® Competition at Rascals Comedy Club in 2004. Ten years later, she won the entire contest in the “Professional” category. She has appeared on Nick at Night.
Sara Contreras - Sara Contreras may have grown up in the projects of Brooklyn but this Latina has made her home in Teaneck for many years. Featured in the Latino Laugh Festival and on “New Joke City,” Sara’s national credits include headlining Showtime’s Original Latin Divas of Comedy.
Julia Scotti - Originally, from Fairview and currently a Toms River resident, Julia had previously gained a national following as “Rick Scotti” in the ‘80s, opening for Chicago, Lou Rawls and Frank Valli, before undergoing gender re-assignment surgery. Now, known as Julia Scotti, her Blog, “Inside and Out,” is read and shared internationally.
Sandy Ehlers - Sandy is a native of Hoboken and a 15-year veteran in the stand-up comedy world. She has performed around the tri-state and is currently works on her one-woman show “Brassy, Sassy & Gassy.”
The show also includes an appearance from the first-ever “New Jersey’s Funniest Female” grandmother, Teaneck resident, Micki Shilan.
