Trending with Scott Simon Features Guest Speakers Joel I. Klein and Arianna Huffington

(NEWARK, NJ) -- New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark announces Trending with Scott Simon presented by U.S. Trust, a two-part series of conversations moderated by the host of Weekend Edition Saturday on NPR. The series will kick off on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 with a thought-provoking session entitled Lessons in Education Reform with top education leader Joel I. Klein, formerly Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education. The series continues on Tuesday, May 19th, 2015 at 7pm with media mogul Arianna Huffington, who will participate in a discussion called Women Who Set The Agenda. Don't miss these unique and intimate sessions that will be held at NJPAC's Chase Room on Tuesday, March 17th and Tuesday, May 19th, at 7PM. Seating is limited.

About Scott Simon
Scott Simon is one of America's most admired writers and broadcasters. He has reported from all 50 states, five continents and 10 wars. His books, which include Windy City, Pretty Birds and Home and Away: Memoir of a Fan, have chronicled characters in war and peace, tragedy and comedy, sports and art. His weekly show on NPR, Weekend Edition Saturday, has been called "the most literate, witty, moving, and just plain interesting news show on any dial" by The Washington Post.

About Joel I. Klein
In January 2011, Joel I. Klein became CEO of the Education Division (now called Amplify) and Executive Vice President at News Corporation, where he also serves on the Board of Directors.

Prior to that, Mr. Klein was Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education where he oversaw a system of over 1,600 schools with 1.1 million students, 136,000 employees and a $22 billion budget. He launched Children First in 2002, a comprehensive reform strategy that has brought coherence and capacity to the system and resulted in significant increases in student performance.

He is a former Chairman and CEO of Bertelsmann, Inc., a media company, served as Assistant U.S. Attorney General in charge of the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice until September 2000, and was Deputy White House Counsel to President Clinton from 1993-1995. Mr. Klein entered the Clinton administration after 20 years of public and private legal work in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Klein is a member of the Board of Directors of News Corporation and Boston Properties, Inc. He also serves on the board of several non-profit organizations, including Foundation for Excellence in Education, Teach for America, Board of Visitors of Columbia College and Board Chair of StudentsFirst, StudentsFirst Institute and StudentsFirst New York.

About Arianna Huffington
Arianna Huffington is the chair, president, and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post Media Group, a nationally syndicated columnist, and author of fourteen books.

In May 2005, she launched The Huffington Post, a news and blog site that quickly became one of the most widely read, linked to, and frequently-cited media brands on the Internet. In 2012, the site won a Pulitzer Prize for national reporting.
