Monmouth Arts Film Sneak Peek: Mr. Turner

originally published: 11/20/2014
(RED BANK, NJ) -- On December 11, 7 pm Monmouth Arts will hold a Sneak peek of the film Mr. Turner, written and directed by Mike Leigh courtesy of Tom Bernard, Co-Chair of Sony Pictures Classics and Bow Tie Cinema. A reception will be held at 5:15 at Monmouth Arts new office space at 105 Monmouth Street part of the Count Basie Theatre. The film will be screened at 7:00 pm at Bow Tie Cinema, 36 White Street, Red Bank.

Mr. Turner stars Timothy Spall and explores the last quarter century of the great if eccentric British painter J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851). It premiered at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, where Spall won the award for Best Actor and cinematographer Dick Pope received a special jury prize for the film's cinematography.

Leigh has described Turner as "a great artist: a radical, revolutionary painter," explaining, "I felt there was scope for a film examining the tension between this very mortal, flawed individual, and the epic work, the spiritual way he had of distilling the world."

As an added treat Monmouth Arts board member and artist Tony Migliaccio will be at the reception to introduce us to the artist J.M.W. Turner and lead a discussion after the film back at the Monmouth Arts office.

Tickets to the Reception & Film are $35 for Monmouth Arts members, $45 non-members and film only tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.

To reserve tickets contact 732-212-1890 or go to www.monmoutharts.org
