Glover, who is NJPAC’s Dance Advisor and a Board member, auditioned young artists for this exciting new production in the Victoria Theater. The Tap Dance Kid, which opened in 1983 and was nominated for six Tony Awards, winning two, marked the Newark native’s Broadway debut when he joined the company at the age of 11.
Set in New York City, The Tap Dance Kid is the story of Willie, a determined youngster who dreams of becoming a tap dancer, but faces opposition from his father. The original show featured music by Henry Krieger, lyrics by Robert Lorick, book by Charles Blackwell and choreography by Danny Daniels.
