An evening of free, live music with eight-time GRAMMY Award nominee Bobby Sanabria, an acclaimed drummer, composer, arranger and educator, long known for his groundbreaking work in Latin jazz.
A leader in the Afro-Cuban, Brazilian and jazz fields, Sanabria has performed with his own acclaimed ensembles as well as with many of the greatest figures in jazz and Latin music, including Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente, Paquito D'Rivera, Ray Barretto, Arturo Sandoval, Chico O'Farrill, and Mario Bauzá, to name a few.
In recent years, Sanabria has been named “Percussionist of the Year” by both DRUM! Magazine and by the Jazz Journalists Association. His most recent LP, 2018’s GRAMMY-nominated West Side Story Reimagined, reached No. 1 on the national Jazz Week radio charts.
Sanabria’s music “always provides a thrilling trip through the Latin jazz cosmos, directed by one of the finest percussive pilots on the planet,” says All About Jazz.
This performance is part of the Bethany Jazz Vespers series, held at Bethany Baptist Church, 275 West Market Street, Newark.
