The Washington Post calls Forces of Nature “nothing short of spectacular!” Led by artistic director and choreographer Abdel R. Salaam, Forces of Nature utilizes a unique blend of modern dance, traditional West African movement, ballet, hip-hop, and martial arts, all set to both live and recorded music. Visceral and visually inventive, these multi-ethnic dancers and drummers perform one-of-a-kind programs that are “spectacular (and) daringly theatrical,” says The New York Times.
Forces of Nature has wowed audiences at the Joyce Theater, BAM: Brooklyn Academy of Music, Aaron Davis Hall and the Apollo Theater, and was featured on PBS in Free to Dance, a Great Performances special on the history of black dance in the 20th century.
Sweet Honey In The Rock remains among the most vibrant, versatile and relevant musical collectives in music today, both as a performance ensemble and as an ambassadorial African-American organization founded on empowerment, education and entertainment. This renowned, GRAMMY-nominated, female a cappella vocal quartet is revered for its live performances in many of the world’s most prestigious venues and has recorded 24 albums, several specifically for children.”
