New Jersey Youth Symphony (NJYS) celebrates its 40th anniversary with this show-stopping performance of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana – an undisputed masterwork for chorus and orchestra, presented here by an ensemble of nearly 500 performers.
Conductor Helen H. Cha-Pyo will lead soloists Mia Pafumi (soprano), Theron Cromer (tenor), and John-Andrew Fernandez (baritone) as well as the combined forces of NJYS, J.P. Stevens High School Chorus, Newark Academy Chorus, New Providence High School Chorus, Ridge High School A Cappella Honors, Somerville High School Chorus, and the Newark Boys Chorus. The performance will also feature a string orchestra of over 100 instrumentalists, including members of the NJYS Sinfonia, Concertino Strings, Primo Strings, and the Paterson Music Project Concert Orchestra & Chorus.
This event is presented by NJYS, a program of the Wharton Institute for the Performing Arts. NJYS has appeared at renowned venues like Carnegie Hall, John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and Vienna’s Musikverein, and has been featured on NJTV’s State of the Arts.
