BRIDGE PLAYERS THEATRE COMPANY CONTINUES ITS 43RD SEASON WITH|
THE MUSICAL ANNIE
(Burlington) BRIDGE PLAYERS THEATRE COMPANY, the Burlington City-based community theatre group, continues its 43rd season with the optimistic family musical, Annie. With a book by Thomas Meehan, music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin, the musical is based on the popular stories of “Little Orphan Annie,” and is the winner of 7 Tony Awards. The show will be presented for three weekends beginning November 16 at the Broad Street United Methodist Church in Burlington.
A plucky orphan girl is on a mission to find her parents in 1930s New York City, after being abandoned years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. With the help of the other girls in the orphanage, Annie escapes and experiences adventure in The Big Apple, making friends with a billionaire, Franklin D. Roosevelt and a lovable dog, until finally finding her forever home.
Bridge Players’ production features a large cast including Charlotte Lemaire, Lena Marano, Victoria Cerini, Brenne Piotrowski, Violet Sweet Pyatt, Makenna Renbjor, Emerson Renbjor, Violet Ruth, Jillian Starr-Renbjor, Marissa DiPilla, Ethan Rundell, Fran Pedersen, Tori Tatulli, Rich Brown, Stephen Piotrowski, MacKenzie Smith, Eilis Skamarakas, Valaree Bower, Marie Davall, Lori Gilmore, Alycia Klaus, Sidney Manfred Maycock, Caroline Piotrowski, Nico Miele, Tony Miele, Emily O’Connell, Katina Vaughn, and Sophia Vaughn.
Jessi Meisel, of Washington Township, directs. She is joined by Amy and Nico Miele of Burlington as stage managers, Diana Dohrmann of Beverly as musical director, Lizi Baldwin of Merchantville as choreographer, and Tim Kirk of Delran as producer.
The original production of Annie opened in April of 1977 at the Alvin Theatre and went on to win the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical, seven Drama Desk Awards including Best Musical, the Grammy for Best Cast Show Album and seven Tony Awards®, including Best Musical, Best Book (Thomas Meehan) and Best Score (Charles Strouse, Martin Charnin). The show remains one of the biggest Broadway musical hits ever. It ran for 2,377 performances after it first opened, and has been performed in 28 languages and has been running somewhere around the world for 37 years.
The beloved score for Annie includes “Maybe,” “It’s the Hard Knock Life,” “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile,” “Easy Street,” “I Don’t Need Anything But You” and the eternal anthem of optimism, “Tomorrow.”
Annie will be presented November 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 and December 1 at 8:00 pm and November 18, 25 at 2:00 pm. There will be a sensory friendly performance on Saturday, November 24 at 2:00 pm and the Saturday November 30 performance will be sign interpreted.
