The Comeuppance

Friday, April 10, 2026 @ 8:00pm

McCarter Theatre Center (Berlind Theatre)
91 University Place, Princeton, NJ 08540

Written by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins ’06

Directed by Vivia Font, Lecturer, Program in Theater

In the fall of 2022, on the eve of their 20th high school reunion, a self-proclaimed “Multi-Ethnic Reject Group” reconnects on the porch of a house in their old neighborhood in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Reminiscing about their high school years and recent pasts (including Covid-19, 9/11, and Columbine) and fueled by drinking and smoking pot, the friends discover competing, recollected versions of their teenage years and find themselves facing a reckoning with the memories of who they were, and are, as an undeniable element of the future viscerally looms before them.

This hauntingly surreal play by Tony Award and MacArthur Genius Award winner and Princeton alum Branden Jacobs-Jenkins ‘06  (An OctoroonAppropriateGloria) garnered a New York Times Critic’s Pick and Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play.

Directed by Princeton Lecturer in Theater Vivia Font with set design by Princeton senior Vera Fei, the cast features Princeton students Radon Belarmino '26, Kavya Bhat '27, Vivian Bui '26, Donte Calabrese '27, Zach Lee '26, Willem Maniago '27, and Sophia Vernon '27.

Pre-Show Conversation with the Playwright

A pre-show conversation with Tony Award-winning playwright and Princeton alum Branden Jacob-Jenkins ‘06 and Professor of the Practice and playwright Lloyd Suh precedes the April 3 performance at 5 p.m. in the Berlind Rehearsal Room. Free and open to the public.
