In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, this intimate performance featuring the New Brunswick Chamber Orchestra will include works composed by American composers or inspired by the ideals that drove the Founding Fathers and their compatriots to action.
The program will include: Henri Vieuxtemp's cheeky yet virtuosic Souvenir d'Amérique: Burlesque Variations on Yankee Doodle, Samuel Barber's singular String Quartet in B minor, and a new work commissioned by the New Brunswick Chamber Orchestra on the theme of New Jersey's role in the revolution.
Founded in 1960 as a community ensemble, the New Brunswick Chamber Orchestra has evolved over six decades into one of central New Jersey's most dynamic professional orchestras. The ensemble strives to redefine the bounds of the classical canon with innovative programs that regularly feature contemporary works alongside time-honored classics. This tradition continues today under the direction of Dr. Julia Baumanis, whose dedication to new music and community-engaged collaboration has introduced a new vitality to the orchestra's longstanding commitment to increasing access to classical music throughout the region.
