The Levoy Theatre presents Yngwie Malmsteen

originally published: 09/15/2024

(MILLVILLE, NJ) -- The Levoy Theatre presents guitar legend Yngwie Malmsteen on Friday, October 11, 2024. Malmsteen's career has spanned over 40 years with over twenty albums to his name. Doors are at 7:00pm, showtime is 8:00pm.

Yngwie Malmsteen was born into a family of classical musicians and opera singers. He received his first guitar on his 5th birthday but started playing it seriously at the age of seven. Originally inspired by the blues, he soon became infatuated with the sound and mind-boggling technique of violin greats such as Nicolo Paganini and Antonio Vivaldi. In addition to adopting the virtuosity of classical violin into his guitar playing, he also incorporated the philosophical approach of J.S. Bach and other Baroque composers into his own compositions and orchestrations. This resulted in the creation of what is now known as Neo-Classical Hard Rock.

Drawing influence from classical composers such as Bach, Paganini, and Vivaldi, Yngwie is responsible for birthing the neo-classical genre to the world of rock. Coming to America as a teenager, he recorded various albums before signing a solo deal in 1984. This upcoming USA tour is in part to commemorate this groundbreaking album, but will also include numbers from over thirty solo releases spanning four decades of Yngwie Malmsteen albums up to the Parabellum album.

Tickets range from $45-$65 (plus fees) and are available for purchase online.  The Levoy Theatre is located at 126-130 N. High Street in Millville, New Jersey.

Yngwie Malmsteen is one of the World’s Premiere virtuoso guitarists.  When he was barely 20, Yngwie exploded onto the music scene with his jaw-dropping technique of lightning fast harmonic minor scalar riffing. His 1984 album, Yngwie J. Malmsteen’s Rising Force, established seemingly overnight the style now referred to a neo-classical melodic rock. A legend in both style and technique, Yngwie’s long career reached new heights when his totally classical work for orchestra and solo electric guitar, Concerto Suite, was released, proving that his classical credentials were genuine. A respected musician among both his peers and his fans, Yngwie continues to play and compose at a level of mastery that many career musicians only dream of.

New Jersey Symphony presents Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem

(NEWARK, NJ) -- With just three programs remaining on the 2025–26 season, Music Director Xian Zhang conducts Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem, the composer's final composition last performed by New Jersey Symphony in 2018, from April 16-19, 2026. Mysteriously commissioned and incomplete at the time of Mozart's death, the Requiem is widely regarded as one of the composer's most accomplished works. Written for a funeral Mass, the music is intensely emotional, ranging from powerful drama to languid sorrow to serene tenderness.
