Singer-songwriter Frances Whitney dropped Old Hobbies (Revisited) deluxe EP, which includes three new acoustic tracks, on March 7, 2025 out via 604 Records. The songs can be streamed here.
Hailing from San Francisco, Frances Whitney is an emerging indie-pop singer-songwriter who considers songwriting her true calling. Even while competing overseas as a professional volleyball player, her heart never strayed far from her guitar. Upon returning to the States, she embraced her musical roots with renewed passion, channeling her experiences into her art.
Infused with nostalgic nods to the iconic rock stars of 70s Los Angeles and influenced by the contemporary indie scene. Her music seamlessly blends rich, evocative melodies with introspective lyrics, crafting a sound that is soulful, authentic, and timeless. With her debut EP, Old Hobbies and Deluxe Edition, Frances invites listeners to join her on a journey of self-discovery and healing, creating an electrifying connection through the power of song.
The EP expands upon themes of Frances Whitney’s debut EP, Old Hobbies, released in November 2024 offering three new acoustic songs including, “Stoned on the Highway,” “Orion” and “Theo’s Party.
“The making of Old Hobbies resulted in an extensive graveyard,” said Whitney, “So it was important to me to release a deluxe version, giving three of the discarded songs (particularly the fan favorites) new life. These recordings take me back to my roots, made alone with me, my guitar and my laptop.”
Previously released singles from Old Hobbies include “Holding On,” “Easy Street,” “You Left Me For Jesus” and, “Something I Wanted” that appear on the deluxe edition, chronicling Whitney’s inner turmoil during a year of writing and recording in intimate settings, from Toronto and Nashville to her LA bedroom. Blending strings, synths, and occasional beats with Whitney’s delicate acoustic guitar, rich melodies, and eloquent lyricism, Old Hobbies creates a soundscape that captures both raw intimacy and the vulnerable truths of early adulthood.
