BlowUpRadio.com's New & Notable NJ Music 12/4/23

By Lazlo

originally published: 12/04/2023

Lazlo, founder of BlowUpRadio.com (an online radio station based around New Jersey artists), shines a light on some of the many new releases from NJ based musicians each week with this column. This week Lazlo takes a look at new releases by Shotgun Bill with the Tango Kid, Marco Sepe, Regency Club, Dennis King, and Troll Teeth. Plus a look back at "Allyson Fell Off The Bike" by The Crayons.

Shotgun Bill with the Tango Kid - "Birds of a Feather". “Shotgun” Bill Anania & Scott “The Tango Kid” Yetka pair up for another laid-back collection of Americana, Classic Country Rock, and Blues. "Birds of a Feather" is an absolute joy to kick back and relax with.

Marco Sepe - "Because I Am A Teenager". They say write what you know, so teenager Marco Sepe writing a song called, "Because I Am A Teenager", makes sense. That it is an indie-pop-rock song that has, to my ears, 80's & 90's influences to it, may make less sense for a 17 year old, but it makes for an amazing  song.

Regency Club - "Out of the Blue". Regency Club's new single, "Out of the Blue" is a lovely, hook-laden, mid-tempo pop rock tune.

Dennis King - "Hail the Pale Blue Moon". The artist formerly known as Sonofdov, Dennis King, releases his first single pegged for a 2024 release. "Hail the Pale Blue Moon" is everything you have come to expect from his music, a blend of indie-folk & Americana, with laid back vocals, perfect for relaxing around a campfire on a fall night staring at the Pale Blue Moon with a beverage of choice in your hand (or maybe relaxing by a fireplace looking out your window at the moon as it is getting cold outside).

Troll Teeth - "Sluagh Vol. 1". In the notes for Troll Teeth's new EP, "Sluagh Vol. 1", they note that their critics and fans always say how the band is constantly evolving and that for this release they wanted to take a step back. This actually allowed for what may be their most creative release yet. There is some 70's hard rock/stoner metal sounds, mixed with some 90's alt-hard rock, and hints of punk/speed metal. Plus an epic 16 and a half minute instrumental, with different fascinating movements, like a hard rock suite.  This EP is freaking awesome!

Not New, But Memorable Corner

The Crayons - "Allyson Fell Off The Bike". On December 15th, BlowUpRadio.com will celebrate its 23rd anniversary. Just a few months after we began broadcasting, The Crayons sent us their debut album, "236 Astor". The album contained some lovely acoustic-pop songs, but "Allyson Fell Off The Bike" was a fan favorite for the entire run of the band, and a terrific earworm.

That's all for this week.
