Lazlo, founder of BlowUpRadio.com (an online radio station based around New Jersey artists), shines a light on some of the many new releases from NJ based musicians each week with this column. This week Lazlo takes a look at releases by The Vice Rags, Hit Like A Girl, Rob Munk, Sonofdov, and Amanda Duncan.
The Vice Rags - "Midnight Ride". Somewhere between garage rock, indie rock, power pop, and hint of blues & rockabilly, lie the brilliance of The Vice Rags new EP, "Midnight Ride". This is one ride you should definitely take!
Hit Like A Girl - "Becoming". Hit Like A Girl goes hardcore on their new EP, and it is freaking awesome!
Rob Munk - "Phased Out". "Phased Out" is the culmination of Rob Munk leaving music for about 15 years. The results are some catchy indie-pop songs. While I hope it doesn't take 15 more years for the next release, whatever time Rob needs to make tunes as great as this batch he should take.
Sonofdov - "Fangs". Sonofdov is a treasure! His introspective singer-songwriter music is almost hypnotic. There is a warmth and comfort, all while his music feels to me like late fall/winter. I can't articulate in words why, but if you feel the same maybe you can explain it to me. "Fangs" is a musical masterpiece.
Amanda Duncan - "Big Time Superhero". I have had a copy of Amanda Duncan's new album for several months now, now it is finally available for all to enjoy.
"Big Time Superhero" is a feel good, fun, upbeat pop rock album! It is a balm for the spirit and the soul. After a rough day I put this album on and find myself singing along and bopping around the studio doing something akin to dancing, and shaking the blues away.
