BlowUpRadio.com's New & Notable NJ Music: 10/3/22

By Lazlo

originally published: 10/03/2022

Lazlo, founder of BlowUpRadio.com (an online station based around New Jersey artists), shines a light on some of the many new releases from NJ based musicians each week with this column. This week Lazlo takes a look at releases by Alex Tea, Dan Shifrin, Messy Humans, Rov, LATEWAVES, Katye Kellye and the Interruption, and Bike Routes.

Alex Tea - "Evolution" [single].  Chill out with this new mellow reggae tune from Jersey City's Alex Tea. It's a keeper.

Dan Shifrin - "Well Enough Alone". "Some low-key songs about my feelings. Hope you enjoy," says the description on Dan Shifrin's Bandcamp page. They may be low-key, but they are still full of hooks, while being introspective. A wonderful collection.

Messy Humans - "It's Not My Favorite". They may be Messy Humans but they make some damn fine punk rock!

Rov - "Cards". Just a few weeks after the "Cards EP" was released, Rov returns with a full length "Cards" album that is some top notch alternative rock with pop punk overtones.

LATEWAVES - "The End is Near" [single]. If the end truly is near, which if you watch the news it is easy to wonder, you may as well go out enjoying the heck out of this pop punk rock song (and equally entertaining music video).

Katye Kellye and the Interruption - "Friend Of A Friend" [single]. Today, October 3rd, 2022, marks the start of the new Supreme Court term, so what better time to release this song about abortion rights, that is a rocker with an important message! Katye Kellye and the Interruption plan to donate all profits from the song to Planned Parenthood.

Bike Routes - "Love Is An Action". Bike Routes are masters of singer-songwriter rock with pop sensibilities. "Love Is An Action" is such a joy to listen to!

That's all for this week.

EVENT PREVIEWS

TD

TD James Moody Jazz Festival: Pianist George Cables

In 1976, tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon made a triumphant return to the United States after spending 14 years living in Copenhagen. He quickly established a working quartet with George Cables on piano, Rufus Reid on bass, and Eddie Gladden on drums. Cables, who will turn 81 on November 14, believes being hired by Gordon was a pivotal point in his career. "Up until that time," he said, "I was spending a lot of time with the electric piano and with other keyboards -- clavinet, synthesizer, and the like. With Dexter, for me, it was rediscovering the piano."
