Jersey City Rocks White Eagle Hall Returns On September 10th

(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- The popular “Jersey City Rocks White Eagle Hall” concert series returns for a third time on Friday, September 10th at 7:00pm, with an art show from Robert Piersanti. This concert series curated by rock musician Debra Devi celebrates Jersey City’s diverse, super-talented music scene. The artists are making a donation to SpotJC Foundation, affiliated with TheSpot JC, a hub for creatives and youth programming in Greenville.

Tickets are available for purchase online.  Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the show, which is open for 18 and up.  Doors open at 7:00pm and the show begins at 8:00pm.

8:00pm: June and the Pushas fuses experimental soul, jazz and hip-hop into a deep, reflective sound anchored by Junestar Blackman’s warm baritone and drummer Orion Toray’s rich jazz pedigree. Focused on love, humanity and positivity, the band functions as an ever-evolving creative collective, often inviting area rappers to join in, as on The Art of Navigation, one of NJ.com’s Top 10 Hudson County albums of 2020, and the band’s new release The Great Reset: anxiety or anticipation.

8:45pm: Billion Man Rebellion is a hip hop group and artist collective of like-minded individuals, building upon the brand of hip hop they grew up on--with hard beats, sharp lyrics and a steady message. BMR’s core is hard-hitting lyricists and cypher brothers Constant Flow (C.F) and Dontique, who each have notable recording credits and have performed around the world. In March 2020, BMR released its powerful debut, The Static Files, produced by DJ Static. The album, NJ.com reports, “ranges from conscious, political material to East Coast hip-hop honed at battle-mics, reflecting pre- and post-gentrification Jersey City.” Look for the followup, Ghost Lineage, in 2021.

9:30pm: Big Wake is a “pulsating, feel-good ensemble” (Huffington Post) that strikes a thrilling balance between catchy, hooky songs and the explosive improvisational firepower of lead singer/guitarist Gerry Rosenthal. On 2019’s Why We Belong, Big Wake combines the melodic lyricism of singer-songwriters like Ben Folds and Conor Oberst with organic, virtuosic jamming reminiscent of The Allman Brothers and moe. Big Wake has shared the stage with artists ranging from Better Than Ezra to Rusted Root.

10:15pm: James Calleo’s Widely Grown is the new band from “one of Hudson County’s most engaging singer-songwriters'' (NJ.com). Whether he’s performing as an acoustic trio or with full horn sections, Calleo creates a warm, intimate vibe. He’s a wanderer, as reflected in his 2020 album Space/Travel, and the single “Thunderstorm” about his travels in India. Calleo seeks to be a sonic medium for communal truth, a tuning fork soundly struck and singing at the frequency of the ties that bind us: love and loss, the physical and the metaphysical, and our shared spiritual tug toward both introspection and untamed adventure.

11:00pm: Debra Devi mixes blues-rock, Americana and pop influences into a potent blend flavored with her masterful guitar playing. Devi jams with Gov't Mule bassist Jorgen Carlsson on her 2020 EP, A Zillion Stars Overhead, "a collection of dreamy blues-rockers and blistering psychedelic jams" (Relix). Devi’s popular live-stream, “Jamification Station,” is hosted by American Blues Scene, and she’s the first female artist to endorse Homestead Amplifiers, which supplies custom amps for Gov’t Mule, Jimmy Herring and Gary Clark Jr.

DJ GISELLE spreads musical healing to anyone she can reach with her open format and open mind. From reggaeton to house and deep house, DJ Giselle brings the vibe that raises the party higher.

White Eagle Hall is located at 337 Newark Avenue in Jersey City, New Jersey.
