The 16-year-old Bordentown-based music upstart Jake Ryan has released a new pop-edelic single, “Out of Body,” the video for which makes its media premiere here as the Makin Waves Song of the Week.
As the Makin Waves Song of the Week, “Out of Body” also can be heard between 6 and 8 p.m. on Oct. 15 on “Radio Jersey” at ThePenguinRocks.com.
Jake’s vocal delivery ranges from soft, whisper-like lines about a failed relationship to Prince-esque falsetto cries rich with emotion; all accompanied by eerie guitar solos and loud rock drums.
The track was inspired by Tame Impala, Childish Gambino, and Funkadelic. ‘70s funk, soul, R&B, and rock also inspired Jake’s disco-like outfit on the cover of his new single.
With musical taste that also includes Frank Ocean, Taylor Swift, Marvin Gaye, Tyler The Creator, Outkast, and Michael Jackson, Jake already has a history of experimenting with multiple genres of music, which he also did with the 2019 debut single “Catch My Vibe.”
Jake will perform Oct. 17 at the Bordentown New Jersey Food Truck Festival at Bordentown Regional High School, where he is a junior.
He also has been featured in stage productions since he was 7, playing multiple lead roles in local theater, such as Horton in “Seussical” and Lord Farquaad in “Shrek: The Musical.” In May, Jake acted in a short film produced by Area 23 of FBC Health Network. Entitled “Last Will,” the short featured prominent themes of gun violence in schools and general unsafety of students across America and was sent to Congress to aid in the decision making process for stricter gun safety laws.
