"v1937 (Receptor Series)" by Joe Lugara. Digital painting.
(PRINCETON, NJ) -- Digital paintings by New Jersey artist Joe Lugara will be featured in the exhibition "Receptors" at the Princeton Public Library, Princeton, New Jersey from April 1 – June 1, 2026.
"The Receptor paintings may look like science fiction, but they're really about something very common: cell phones," the artist says. "The glowing shapes are projecting toward the viewer but they're also drawing something away—or energies, let's say. The light does more than just make the shapes visible. It insists on our attention. It commands it. I call them Receptors, but they're really receiving nothing. You are the receptor."
Joe Lugara's paintings and photographic works have appeared in more than 40 exhibitions in museums and galleries and published in more than 30 magazines, including cover art for the literary journals The Lincoln Review, The MacGuffin, Your Impossible Voice, Pithead Chapel, Right-Hand Pointing and Gone Lawn. His painting series "Scrutiny" has been nominated by The Lincoln Review for the 2025 Best of the Net Anthology.
The Princeton Public Library is located at 65 Witherspoon Street, Princeton, New Jersey. Hours are Monday - Thursday, 9:00am – 8:00pm; Friday – Saturday, 9:00am – 5:00pm; Sunday, 12:00pm – 5:00pm (609) 924-9529.
